English folk now just call it Trumpton. Perhaps you take this more seriously than most Americans. The defeat of Hillary Clinton in the presidential election has left the Democratic Party with no leader and no vision. "We're not Trump" is not a plan. Quite many Republicans aren't Trump either. Electing a woman simply because she is a woman is not a good plan. Most people today expect other things to matter more. It is a cause of wonder then how the Democrats swept the New Jersey and Virginia elections. (Those two states have elections for state offices in odd numbered years, federal offices with the same schedule, even numbered years, as other states.) It is a cause of wonder unless you understand how the Republican party has no plan either. Slash and burn is not the best plan, although it might be better than what the Democrats have. It does need rules that give people more freedom. (I am aware of the irony and note in answer that anarchy is not "freedom" by most definitions.) There does still appear at least the perception that only special people are free and at others' expense in a way that works against the Republicans.

Not really, as older readers in the UK would perhaps have realised: www.imdb.com/title/tt0061306/combined Although Trump's crassness, and his detrimental effect on America's wider reputation, and liberalising influence abroad, is ultimately no laughing matter.

Even with being a member of a discussion board with a helpful lot of people from all around the English speaking world there are still things that escape me. Although a second term for Trump had seemed inevitable because of the failure of the Democratic Party to select a formidable leader, Joe Biden has been considered as a challenger to Trump for 2020. That gives him plenty of time to work on the "formidable" part.
