While I like the film the special effects in the climax of Mission To Mars look somewhat cartoony or video gamey by today's technological standards.

Lord of the rings, although they looked pretty dated even on release, they look more so now

Gotta agree with you there on X-men, even though I still love it.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) The movie is good, except the scenes towards the end set in the far off future, showing the WTC still in NYC.

Damn Spielberg for not having the foresight of 9/11.

The Departed - also did not look well during its first run: a drab and ugly set design, Scorsese repeating himself with his gangster tropes, and not having enough inspiration left to create a new film - he did a scene-for-scene remake of a superior Hong Kong crime film.

The Departed tops Infernal Affairs on the cast alone as they simply have a better screen presence.

Spider-Man 3 & not just its meek storyline. Other than Sandman, its visuals felt mailed in when I first saw it, the building explosion looked like a pulled punch.
X-Men 3 the Last Stand. The first X-Men gets a pass because it's more self contained in the school & whatnot. The 3rd movie feels tired.

mikef6 Fair point. but in terms of English speaking people... i think it's safe to say The Departed will be the more preferred movie by the easy majority. so basically the opposite of that. hi224 Fair enough. but overall it's not close for me given the following info... -The Departed (2006) - 7/10 (within my Top 196 movies) -Infernal Affairs (2002) - 5/10 (Thumbs Down) I think it's ultimately the cast that amps up The Departed and makes Infernal Affairs forgettable.

Lord of the rings, although they looked pretty dated even on release, they look more so now Completely agree, the special effects aren't that good - at least in the first one, I've only seen a couple of scenes from the other ones.
