A lot of people consider this a low point in the James Bond series. But is it really that bad? How has this film held up after 15 years? Any fans of it at all?
It's been years since I've seen it, but I remember thinking it's not as bad as people make it out to be......provided that you turn off your brain in regards to stuff like that CGI wave, Madonna's lousy theme song, and the invisible car.

I like this Roger Moore quote about the film. lol.
"I thought it just went too far – and that’s from me, the first Bond in space! Invisible cars and dodgy CGI footage? Please!"

Personally I love it. Actually I love most of the Bond films. I admit it has flaws but I think its great fun with a lot of solid action. Its my 9th favorite Bond film.

This is NOT a celebratory event. Then consider it an autopsy.

provided that you turn off your brain in regards to stuff like that CGI wave, Madonna's lousy theme song, and the invisible car. And pretty much everything else after the opening scene. This movie felt like "if Austin Powers is gonna make fun of us, let's just make an Austin Powers movie so they don't have to".

It used to be one of the best James Bond movies for me but on Dec 27th 2014 (which is my most recent re-watch of it) it went from a 7.5-8/10 back to a 5/10 (Thumbs Down (i.e. not worth re-watching anymore)). my previous viewing Aug 14th 2012 and at that point the 7.5-8/10 still remained. i would imagine i first seen Die Another Day around 2003. so it held strong for roughly 8-9 years for me.
but with that said... there are definitely worse Bond movies overall than Die Another Day. hell, even amongst the Brosnan outings i think Die Another Day is better than TWINE/TND.
p.s. for the record... none of the Brosnan Bond movies hold up for me anymore even though they used to be amongst the best Bond movies for me. i like 14 out of the 25 Bond movies but only 7 of them are amongst My Favorite Movies in general.

I loved everything up until the end of the opening credits. Then the movie rapidly degenerated into the worst of the Brosnan-era Bonds. Really awful movie.

Even Pierce Brosnan thought Die Another Day was "so ridiculous". www.express.co.uk/entertainment/films/798860/James-Bond-007-Pierce-Brosnan-Die-Another-Day “I had a great time on Die Another Day. “There were things I read in the script that were so ridiculous, like the invisible car, but I just tried to act my way through it and believe in it.” Brosnan added: “You can really give yourself a massive headache and a great amount of stress trying to wangle some sense of believability into it.” Die Another Day came up an interview where he expressed his general frustration with his four Bond films, which also included GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough. He said: ““There was a certain frustration within me as the films went on, as I could see the world happening around me and the movies. “I wanted Bond to get a little more gritty and real and down and dirty.” The actor added: “But however you try to nurse it along, the scripts would come along with the same outlandish scenarios. “So you go with the flow, and just enjoy the great experience of travelling the world and being this character.”

The opening action scene was very good and Toby Stephens was a solid villain. It's just too ott for its own good. It's as bad as Moonraker and Diamonds Are Forever.

The first hour or so, the performances by Pierce Brosnan, Judi Dench, and Rosamund Pike, David Arnold's score, and some of the references to the past Bond films were pretty good. Nevertheless, Die Another Day is one of the lowest points of the film series, but I consider A View to a Kill to be the worst Bond film of the series. The bad writing and poor special effects do so much to bring the film down.

I quite enjoyed discount Hugh Grant as the villain.

It's one of the worst, but it isn't completely terrible, and the Madonna track grows on you after a while. Shame the same can't be said of her performance.
