Question above.
For me, I've always enjoyed this film and never understood the hate it gets or why it got a bad reception from film critics. I understand why people hate the sequel (I thought it was complete garbage), but why is the first film hated so much? Is it because of Nicholas Cage starring in the film and people don't him seriously as the character or something? I've never read the Ghost Rider comics, but I thought did Nicholas Cage did a good job as the character and I considered the film one of the most highly underrated comic book films ever.

I always thought it was simply a very bad movie. I didn't think it was entertaining in the slightest.

It was a terrible movie and hugely campy.

It was a terrible movie and hugely campy. That word gets thrown way too much when describing movies as if it's a bad thing. And anyways, what was so campy about it? I thought it was a pretty dark film and it certainly took it's source material much more seriously than the MCU does.

It was the villain, he was awful. Terribly acted and with some memorably bad lines like
"My name leeeeeegion for we are.....maaaaaaany"
Ugh.

It wasn't a bad movie. It wasn't great but I find it entertaining. Many people really are too harsh sometimes.

Why do many people hate Ghost Rider (2007)? ...because it blew...?
IMO the only thing that was good about it was the FX of Ghost Rider himself. HE looked cool. But the movie just didn't have an engaging story or pace. Peter Fonda in a cameo as Satan was ok but the other villains were SO weak. And though I might agree that Nic Cage didn't necessarily embarrass himself, he certainly didn't do anything interesting with it. The movie could have been so much more. I knew it was in trouble when they announced the director would be Mark Steven Johnson, the guy who messed up Daredevil.

I only watched it once, probably around 2008, so I don't recall a lot about it, but I know that I loved it at the time.
I love a lot of films that are widely disliked, though, and I also dislike a lot of films that are widely loved. For a cinephile, at least, I have unusual tastes.

The Ghost Rider films are actually a guilty pleasure of mine. Nick Cage, although horribly miscast, freak-outs are always enjoyable. I am disappointed in sony for turning Blackheart from this: To....This....

Johnny Blaze sold his soul to Mephistopheles to save his dad from dying from cancer only for the old man to die in a crash.
Mephistopheles actually bound a demon Lord to Blaze, Blaze was more Zarathos' He'll than vice versa.
I give Cage points for actually being a GR fan, but he was not anywhere near Johnny Blaze.

So I shouldnt watch this? GR is cool. A flaming skeleton on a flaming motorcycle. Cage is a bit hammy. Peter Fonda is not hammy enough as Mephistopheles
