Well, first off, I think Rey is well-written. How is Rey well-written?

Are you trying to lure me into another three-page debate? I'm on to your tricks... Why, my only trick is an honest curiosity... ;B Okay, well, I like what she's going through on Jakku when we first meet her. The scavenging, the grunt work to polish what she scavenges, the scrawling of the days gone past, the eager way she devours her simple, small meal and the way she spends her free time dreaming - like Luke - about being somewhere else in the world doing something daring or adventurous. I like her rigid, principled sense of justice. She's not afraid to stand up for what is right, even if it means she puts herself in danger. I like the fact that her conscience drove her away from the most basic instinct - nourishment - when it came time to stand on principle. I like the fact that she retains her girlishness throughout her (much aligned) heroism. Although she frequently succeeds, and although, at times, she acts like a boss when she does it, there are also moments of vulnerability where she shows a sheepish smile and virtually shrugs her shoulders like, "oops, glad that worked out, ha ha, sorry." I like she evolved as a character and that it was so subtle that most people who watched the movie either didn't notice or won't agree that it happened. Nevertheless, it happened: Rey got angry and used the dark side in two out of three of her run-ins with Kylo. I like that for as well as I feel I know Rey now, there's still a lot to learn. So much so that future revelations may indeed completely change how I view her as a character. I like that she displayed a mode of power that hasn't been shown in an episodic film yet. I like most of her dialogue in the film, but not all. It is a curse of the SW franchise that its featured protagonists always have a few annoying moments. As I've stated before, I thought Rey's annoying moments were fewer than Luke's in the OT and far fewer than Anakin's in the PT. I especially like every scene she's in with Han and their banter. It was realistically father/daughterish even if they are not related. Seeing Han soften up for a daugther-type character is something I had often wanted to see and Harrison played it brilliantly, but he was able to play it off well-written scenes with Rey.

Without killing Luke, if they did it more like when Darth beats Obi-wan, it wouldn't bother me or take me out of the movie. I can buy her having a slightly stronger or more instinctual connection to the Force, than Luke but some kid just learning to use a lightsaber shouldn't be able to beat someone who took down Darth Vader. Rey vs. Kylo in TFA was a girl who was on the verge of not-caring if she lived or died as long as she took out Kylo, plus Kylo's multiple injuries (shot by Chewie, sliced by Finn, etc.), Kylo isn't actually trying to kill her for most of the fight since he's trying to get her to come to his side, and Kylo seriously underestimates her. Luke wouldn't underestimate her and I doubt she'd be as desperate.
