Maybe the funniest Christmas movie I've seen, reminds me how good Chevy Chase was and how ridiculously hilarious Randy Quaid can be. The rest of the cast is very good, too. Lots of good music. Surprised to find out John Hughes wrote it. A solid 9/10.

7/10 - It's fun, but I prefer the original National Lampoon's Vacation (1983).

B+ I know it's Christmas bias I prefer this to Vacation, same score for both.
Vacation aged quickly, I've seen earlier films than its 1983 & not many look as dated as it. Almost as if it was the tail end of the 70's era before the 1980's truly became the 80's. Aunt Edna is annoying.
Christmas Vacation is just about yearly for me, though less so lately. I've simply watched it into the ground. I think it began showing its age around 2005 for me. What I love about it is it hits so many common xmas notes like shopping, lights, napping, relatives, snow, carols, etc that isn't exaggerated or wedged. Nowadays holiday comedies seem like Jackass stunt shows... aka drivel.
Shoutout for one of my fav opening credits/songs. Classic. Both films really.
Bonus shoutout for Todd & Margot... I'd watch a movie about them.

For me it was a hit or miss. Though some scenes were ourageously funny, while some where tastless (in my mind). I liked the scene when Chevy Chase sits in the attic and watched old home movies, that was really warm and human, remembering Christmases of the past, and a well needed pause from all the mayhem.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989) Most definitely one of my top favorite John Hughes films and especially one of my favorites of the National Lampoon vacation film saga too . I never tire of this one and gave it a vote of 10 also . IMPO - This was certainly a hilarious and memorable gem for the holiday season as well . Thanks so much jamesavalon for your subject post .
