I love it! Rafe and Abe are the idiots. Mr. Mayor is being the biggest dick in town. I get it. His Son is fighting for his life. I’m sure I’d be a wreck if my Son was in the same situation. But, at the same time, he was a former cop and police commissioner and knows that an internal investigation needs to be completed before making the decision to terminate JJ. Hello Mr. Mayor! Your Son was involved with a crime and running away from the scene. He was wearing a hoodie that made it impossible to identify his face. He didn’t follow JJ’s orders. Yes, it didn’t end up being a gun, but in the dark, it did appear as a weapon. As for Rafe, well, he’s always Rafe. Running out of town to help Sami when the Salem PD is short staffed and not telling his superior officer and then interfering on Hope’s behalf were pure dumb moves.
I may be a bit biased because I’ve always liked Hope’s character. But, I realize she can be a drama queen too. But, as she pointed out, she is following protocol and letting the investigation by internal affairs handle itself. Sounds fair to me. Abe has been the biggest jerk in the world since this happened.

I'm mostly talking about Hope and Rafe's argument. I'm not Abe's biggest fan right now; his grief is making him blind and irrational. I'm taking more issue with how Hope is taking it personally that Abe's condition for letting IA handle the investigation into JJ was for Rafe to be commissioner; and then needling Rafe about every little thing, and acting as if it's some intentionally petty slight against her, including helping Sami. Yeah, Rafe should have told someone where he was going, it actually seems dumb that he didn't, but she's blown everything else out of proportion and made it all about her. I'm the furthest from being a fan of Rafe, but he's coming out looking like a saint and a genius in all of this.
And Abe isn't entirely wrong about the optics of the situation, while Abe may be too close for objectivity, being the father of the victim, Hope's too close as the cousin to the person who shot Theo; and like Rafe said, Jennifer is her cousin and her best friend, and it already looked like she might have been playing favorites lifting JJ's suspension as quickly as she did, especially when he turns around and ends up shooting someone. Whether or not there's any truth to that, someone in her position needs to be held to high standard and their decisions need to be beyond reproach for the public to have confidence in the work they do; especially after the last commissioner.
