Eddie Van Halen always does it for me and guitar (which I used to play; been thinking about taking it back up). Lately Joe Satriani and Shawn Lane have been doing it for me as well.
Yes's Roundabout is the one song that made me wish I played bass... and a handful of Rush tracks.
I'd love to take up drumming just to learn Tool's Ticks & Leeches.

I've always had a thing for bass guitar. Lots of Rush, Yes, ELP and Tool songs inspire me. I got into Funk because of players like Bootsy Collins and Ernie & Marvin Isley. One song which always stood out for me is 'The Real Me' with John Entwistle's magic.

Listening to Bowie, Bauhaus, The Smiths and Joy Division made me pick up the bass guitar.

Jimi Hendrix made me pick up the guitar and The Beatles made me want to write songs.

Just punk in general, proved you didn't need the stodgy technical skills that had bored us for years and that we could go back to the early days mentality of the 50's and make simple 3 minute blasts of noise.

Talking Heads' "Road to Nowhere" makes me want to play the accordion.

Listening to the heavy urgency of Paul McCartney (Beatles), Larry Graham (Sly & The Family Stone), Bruce Foxton (Jam), Steve Garvey (Buzzcocks) and Barry Adamson (Magazine) made me pick up the bass guitar. Eventually, I just had to try do what they were doing, try and replicate that deep, resonant, rhythmic sound, but I'd been classically trained on piano and saxophone through childhood so it was a totally different way of playing.
