I'm partway thru season 5...which has been fantastic so far...but I got to the scene where...SPOILER
Jimmy Steve shows up in Fiona's diner. All I can think is how much I hate the Jimmy Steve character. He's a pos.

There's a great song written about Fiona in season 6 that would probably spoil what happens if I posted it.

Love the show from start to present. I prefer Frank as the anti-father.

It's going on so long pretty soon it will exceed the British show, which I think went for almost dozen years.
What keeps me watching is that I want to see which Gallaghers succeed and which ones fail, and why.

Just finished season 7. Most of the plots are feeling repetitive. I still love certain characters despite their flaws but this might be a good stopping point for now.

Anybody watching this season?
I know this is Emmy Rossum's last season. Will anybody else miss her? I was rooting for Fiona's entrepreneurial spirit and independence but it's not looking good for her right now. Fiona has spunk but is too naive. She needs to learn more about the legalities of commercial real estate and the mathematical laws of finance.
Ford seemed like the right guy for Fiona but that's looking rocky. It's convenient that she doesn't want kids (which makes sense given how long she was mother to her siblings) and that he doesn't want to father any more kids.
I'm wondering about Cameron Monaghan. A critic described his character's arc as "ending". Is he leaving the show, too?
There are always new story lines, but the show hasn't really changed its formula. You get what you expect. Lip not fulfilling his potential. Carl looking for a way to get ahead by whatever means, but showing compassion for animals. Debbie trying to support herself and her baby daughter in whatever unconventional way pays best. Liam becoming a real person instead of a prop. I still hate Frank and his plots. He looks like a smelly bum but we're supposed to believe he's a chick magnet.

Apparently planned before Emmy Rossum's departure announcement, and obviously kept secret. Showtime is probably gonna give the show a 10th season even with the departures, and the fact it's seen better days.

Interesting to see where they end up. Some seasons stand out for taking on big issues, like when Liam accidentally ingested coke and almost died. So many viewers were angry at Fiona for that, I remember from old imdb and other boards. Also for Fiona having an abortion that other season while Debbie chose to give birth. This season is just chugging along with no big crises. I'm content with that. I do want to see the show end, though, so I can move onto something else.

show needs to end while good, showtime always drags their shows on way too long

No new episode until early next year, I believe.
I get tired of the relentless liberal politics on this show. I didn't find it funny when that Muslim caricature, I mean character, proposed stoning Ford, describing lightheartedly that that's what they do in his country for infidelity. Really, that's funny?
I watch this show from a different viewpoint. I want to see the Gallaghers pull themselves up and succeed.
