I don't know how active the music subboard is, but if it's active enough we can do rankings like this more often.
Abbey Road seems like a good album to start with. I always heard people saying Abbey Road is one of the best Beatles albums
and one of the best albums ever made. So I was surprised that when I first heard I only liked it, but I didn't love it. Some parts didn't work for me. But after having listened to it multiple times, I absolutely love it now. This is an album that, at least for me, needed some time to sink in and have its effect. Now it's one of my favorite albums, even though it isn't my personal favorite Beatles album.
My personal ranking:
1. Something
This is a song I can listen to over and over, one of my favorites from The Beatles. It has beautiful lyrics and the guitar is iconic.
2. Come Together
What a fantastic song. The instruments are amazing and Lennon's voice is great in this. I don't know what exactly does it, but all together this song is the definition of cool.
3. Here Comes the Sun
How can you not like this one? One of the most fun and relaxing songs ever made.
4. You Never Give Me Your Money
The melody in this one is so perfect. Reminds me a bit of Paul's songs on and around the Sgt. Pepper period.
5. Octopus' Garden
Very charming and one of the Beatles best sing-along songs, I never get tired of this one.
6. Polythene Pam
One of their most underrated songs from the album if I look at other people's opinions on websites. It's so catchy and I can't help but sing along. Reminds me a lot of Sgt. Pepper (the opening song) in that it sounds like it has screaming vocals, but it hasn't. I don't know how they did it (they also do it in Come Together) but even when they sing calm and relaxed they are still able to put so much energy in their songs.
7. Carry That Weight
I love this one, don't know exactly what else to say about it. I love the instrumental hints to some of the earlier songs on the album.
It shows why it's important to listen to this as a full album and not as seperate songs.
8. Golden Slumbers
The vocals in this are again incredible and it's instantly memorable. A beautiful ballad.
9. Oh! Darling
One of the songs that I thought was just okay upon a first listen, but now I love it. The vocals are just insanely good.
10. The End
A great final (full) song on the album. The instrumentation is very good.
11. I Want You (She's So Heavy)
This one also took we a few listens to get into, but I really like it now. It almost feels like a fight between the vocals and the instrumentation and I mean that in the best way possible.
12. Because
The voice harmony in this one is extremely good and impressive. Furthermore it gives off a weird laid back vibe that I really like.
I can't believe it eventually ended up at #12 when I finished making this list. Probably shows how much I love this album that I can't put this any higher than #12.
13. Mean Mr. Mustard
Just a fun little song.
14. Maxwell's Silver Hammer
I'm not one of the people that hate this song, I actually really like it. Funny enough it would probably be a lot higher on this list after I first listened to the album. But the other songs have grown so much on me over time that it ends up almost on the end of the list.
15. She Came In Through the Bathroom Window
A good song, but it pales in comparison to some of the best songs on the album.
16. Sun King
One of the most laid-back songs on the album. A good song, but it didn't stand out to me as much as some of the other songs.
P.S.: I didn't include Her Majesty. I don't really know how to judge a 30 second song.
