Original: So now that it seems that the MCU may very well get the X-Verse do you think that could be enough to bring Hugh Jackman back to the role of Wolverine?
Money wouldn't be a problem for the Disney/MCU/Fox merger. They could literally pay him whatever he wanted. Who wouldn't want to see him and the actors of the Avengers together? He actually expressed a desire to do it in the past.
If the movie is set before the time of Logan Hugh could come back to do it. He's actually still young and fit enough to do it for a bit longer. Wolverine was always the grizzlier looking member of the team so his age could actually help the character.
Avengers vs. X-Men movie!!!

No universe mergers will be accepted. So you're saying re-boot. Move on from whats already been done in the FOX X-Universe. But that's an entire universe they created, not just one movie or character. I don't see why FOX would agree to that. It may even be a stipulation in the agreement. However, I think there are just as many merits to re-booting as there to simply merging. A new Wolverine is one of them.

Maybe even do a Wolverine/Cap flashback film. That would be fucking awesome. But the MCU doesn't need any specific character for the draw power and I think they should give more weight to the other characters in the X-Men. Also as you mentioned, he is starting to age, and I'd rather they just get a younger guy so they can have him for longer.
And I think bringing in Jackman specifically just invites this semi-confusion as to whether it's the same universe crossing over, etc, and I think they need a clean break.

I'd be okay with a "Marvel's Wolverine" that takes place before he joins the X-men. Or maybe as an antagonist in a Hulk movie.

I am actually hoping for a reboot. Sure, I love the X-Men movies and the characters, but if they really are moving to the MCU, then I feel maybe the need to do some solo X-Men films again with new blood. Start it over and take their time. Think about it, the MCU as we know it is coming to an end. They need fresh faces for the future and X-Men would be a perfect place to start.

I have to admit, I do like the idea of a new Wolverine. And I love the idea that they might finally get Cyclops right too! For me the central, or perhaps the most significant stories in X-Men, are the triangle of Cyclops, Marvel Girl and Wolverine and the rivalry between Xavier and Magnetos philosophies. That's the meat of it for me.
As much as I love what Hugh Jackman did with the character over the years, he was actually wrong for it in a few ways. Wolvie was always supposed to be a short berserker.
Wolverine vs. Hulk may actually happen! WOW! A classic storyline come to life...

I'd definitely be down for a new one, but I actually think they can focus on other angles than Magneto, and I don't particularly care about the height issue with wolverine. I don't think they'll every make him short. |
