The Marvel boss just made this comparison and I think I'm inclined to agree. Please, before you choke to death, hear us out. Even Bale's Batman, as complex and as nuanced as it was, still divided ardent fans. Gadot, while forceful, authoritative and graceful, still has a long way to go before we know if she is a Wonder Woman for all seasons. And Cavill, while undoubtedly capable, just hasn't been given a chance. I don't think Ben Affleck has done anything substantial for the role of Batman - sorry. Worse than hating his performance, I am completely indifferent to his work. Evans is Captain America. I can't think of anyone who has brought a comic book character to life more singularly. His character's arch has been impressive, and Infinity War promises to add even more dimension to the role. Christopher Reeve embodied the warmth, sensitivity, charm, and intellect of Superman. His Kal-El never judges humanity, and he never sets himself above or apart from us. Even in the presence of a flesh peddler, he politely excuses himself to serve and protect. Evans has all of Reeve's qualities, and I think the two are comparable if not equal. Und du?

Yup, he's come a long way from playing Human Torch.

Nah, he's up there. And he's consistently been better at the role too, .

I thought he was going to be portray the character like a fratboy like he did Human Torch in the Fantastic Four movies, but boy, did he prove me wrong. He was born to play Steve Rogers.

Funny thing, he took roles like Snowpiercer and a hitman in "The Iceman" to play against type...when playing Cap itself was him already going against type as fratboy type character he'd played several of.

I don't think he's even the Christopher Reeve of this franchise, that's RDJ. Hugh Jackman also pretty much owned the role of Wolverine.

He's a great Captain America, they'll have a hard time topping him. Same with Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pratt.

It’s a fair point, Lord Death Man —indeed, if I may say so, part and parcel of the argument I was trying to make to you here. I particularly agree with this line: "Christopher Reeve embodied the warmth, sensitivity, charm, and intellect of Superman”—and, yes, Evans embodies the same for Cap. Both are all-American boy scouts, sentiments at which the cynics may scoff without realizing that cynicism can be naïve than idealism. I continue to think that Reeve did something special in Superman (though, of course, it helps that he looked like he just stepped out of the pages of a comic book), but if we’re looking for a Chris Reeve for our time, Evans may well be the closest we have. (Far more so than Henry Cavill’s brooding loner or Robert Downey Jr.’s petulant whiner!) With that said, Miss Gadot comes close, and Wonder Woman bases its story structure and character far more closely on Reeve’s Supes. Still, as Evans has consistently done it—yeah, I think I’d be inclined to agree with you.

I think Evan's is approaching his level of skill and, if we get nothing else from Infinity War, I think we'll get to see Steve Roger's character arc progress further. RDJ undoubtedly brings something to the table as Iron Man. He took the character from its dour and conservative roots in the comics and made it more three dimensional. Iron Man's overuse of irony, sarcasm and mocking humor make him seem too juvenile at times. Evans manages to balance humor and a certain vulnerability that somehow gives him strength. I knew my opinion would be unpopular and that many would dismiss it out of hand. I'm glad to see there are one or two people who could agree. I think Evans is approaching that level of greatness and would have made for an unbelievably brilliant Superman in an alternate universe.

I'd appreciate Gadot more if she was doing better acting, but truth be told she WASN'T doing much acting in WW. They just covered it up really well by surrounding her by good actors leading the scenes and having her naivety be part of her character so you don't expect a lot of acting from her.

He stands as the best candidate. And more importantly, he's been racking up solid performances outside the MCU like with Snowpiercer, Gifted, and The Iceman.

Yes, he will be as iconic to the role of Captain America as Reeve was to Superman.
