So DCEU has been criticized for being too dark. Personally I don't think the universe itself or the studios approach is too dark, but rather that director Zack Snyders tends to go that way.
Marvel on the other hand has gone for a lighter approach, more humor, more color. And its worked.
So could Marvel make a dark movie? Are there characters and stories in the MCU that would lend themselves to that? And more importantly would Marvel Studios ever go that way as an artistic choice? For example, if they got the rights to the Blade character back, or if they did a Ghost Rider movie, would they do those movies that way?
I'd like to see them try...

I think Avengers Infinity War is going to be as dark as a CBM can get. Dont know why but its just the feeling I have.

I'm sure they can, they just would seem a little out of place in the current "phases". They have their dark moments. On the other hand most of the TV shows in the MCU are dark, and they seem to have been a success too.

'Civil War' was pretty serious-minded for the MCU. Perhaps if they continue pushing further in that direction for certain movies.

It's not "too dark"...it's too aimless and not as well written as it could be. The "Dark" thing is just a symptom of the real problems. It's not necessarily lighter, either. [/p]
I'd like to see them try... [/quote] Eh, let's see how Black Panther and Infinity Wars turn out.

See, this is what I always thought, but yet whenever I hear the criticisms this always comes up, so I took it for granted that that's what people thought. I thought Civil War was hella dark - parents being assassinated, friends fighting one another, bombs going off killing people, and an ending as bleak as Empire Strikes Back! And y'know what I liked it that way. But then I also liked BvS.

They can. The third act of Civil War was pretty dark. And I'd love to see more stuff like that.
Great stories make their protagonists suffer and struggle. That may sound sadistic but it's really just about good drama.
I really wanted a more serious Iron Mang sequel. The second had some good weight but the third was a big let down. I would've enjoyed seeing Stark go up against a truly menacing villain and have a real dramatic story arc... but they went for a much lighter tone, giving him a ten year old buddy and a drug addict Mandarin.

I want a movie equivalent of Daredevils tone.
Not sure with what character, I'd just like to them attempt it.

I hope not. Like Lord Death Man said, they don't need dark and edgy.

Most of Civil War and Winter Soldier was pretty dark and Infinity War and Black Panther look like they're going to be dark as well.

Do they really need to? Their films do occasionally explore some dark ideas but overall the tone is kept light and has more than a dash of optimism sprinkled throughout. When the situation gets bleak, it's more an obstacle to overcome and something to rise up as a hero to fight against rather than just the way things work and a completely futile cause. And that is totally fine. What makes a lot of drama "dark" is how it points a finger to the indifference and self-serving nature of man and makes the statement that no matter what small victories you win, this is how it's always going to be and life is going to crush your spirit in the end. That sort of runs contrary to the whole idea of colorful superheroes standing up against the bad agents of the world in the first place.
But I'm rambling a bit. I'm sure they could. I just don't think they should. I don't know how you would keep it inline with the universe's tone, and frankly, sometimes it's nice to have escapist entertainment that doesn't make you feel like shit.
