So me and my friend Anthony are gonna see The Last Jedi this friday. I messaged him about it and he called it "Episode VIII" I LOL'd and said "noone calls them by their numbers anymore". Because I read a year ago Disney stopped referring to them by their episodes even tho they are still in the movies themselves. Most people I know just call them by their subtitles. Am I the only one who does this?? Is this a stupid thing to ask??

I usually call them by subtitles, but there's nothing wrong with calling them " episode..."

I don't think I ever really called them by their numbers.

It's more common to say the subtitles, but people use episode numbers more for the sequel trilogy because it's happening currently. We haven't had subtitles for those the whole time we've been discussing them. Maybe in a while ep 8 will be more solely referred to as TLJ, but it's pretty split right now I think, just like it will be for episode 9, even after we get the title.

I call them by their subtitles, but I will continually refer to the next sequel as "Episode IX" until we get an official subtitle.
