Cynthia Ann Parker – the person The Searchers is based on Hey, Bravo, this is very interesting. I read and loved LeMay's novel, but I have to say I'm not familiar with it having any connections to real people. Not disputing you, just very interested, in particular because Cynthia Ann parker looks so Native America in that photo. Can you please give me some info about her roots/history? I'd appreciate it. There are several nonfiction books about her. Here's one of them. She also has a Wiki page.

I've never seen Two Rode Together, but it might say more about the Parker case than The Searchers did.

spiderwortI have long been fascinated by the story of the Parkers and actually relieved that it was not been made into a film. The likes of Chuck Connors, Rock Hudson, Sal Mineo or Burt Lancaster as Quannah Parker (SHUDDER) ! Perhaps now, with a more realistic casting and accurate writing, it could be done. Highly unlikely, since it would not bring the mobs into the Cineplexes. Perhaps a made-for-cable or a Ken Burns type documentary ?

spiderwort "Quanah Parker" in Two Rode Together played by German Born actor Henry Brandon He also played Scar in The Searchers
This is Woody Strode in Two Rode Together .... supposed to be a Comanche (with a Mohawk hair-do ?" Looking over the synopsis and reviews ... it looks like they have only used the names and none of reality. Rare Jimmy as a bad guy.

spiderwortSomewhere back in the thread I posted images of Wes Studi as Geronimo. Graham Greene is also an underused actor who could / should be seen more often. Things are better now but ... .

Just a query guys:
Presumably there were squabbles and probably wars between Amerindian tribes long before Europeans knew that the Americas continent even existed. Are there any movies which depict this pre-European era?

alfromniI do not recall seeing any films which deal with pre-invasion stories, either peaceful or warring. People being people, warring was common amongst the various groups of peoples. There exist "story blankets" that depict wars that occurred before Europeans were in the area. Fighting was just part of the warrior tradition.
Back to the kidnappings : Kidnapping was also part of the culture, which is why I feel that movies like The Searchers and Two Rode Together are not actually based on the Parker story but are just general "kidnapped" stories.

BATouttaheck -- Thanks Bat. I seem to have picked an era that Hollywood has forgotten about...or just not interested enough. Perhaps not enough is known, although as you say there are "story blankets", and I believe there in an increasing archeological interest in this area of history/pre-history. But creating historical fiction seems to be a specialisation of Hollywood regarding everywhere else, why not here?

RE: Crazy Horse image above: This image of Crazy Horse was allegedly taken just before his death in 1877, but it’s authenticity has been disputed since for most of his life he refused to be photographed. Crazy Horse There are other images on Google that are labelled as being Crazy Horse BUT they are of old men and he was killed at the age of 37.
