Very sublime film and Amazing how the movie manages to make Wiseau empathetic despite his covert, clandestine nature.

Glad they were able to make something out of the book. One of my favorites.

Have to find time to see this one while it's in theaters. It should be there a while though, with all the awards buzz it's getting.

I've seen The Room in bits and pieces over the years, and finally saw the full film recently. I also read excerpts from The Disaster Artist novel and Tommy Wiseau certainly doesn't come across an innocuous oddball weirdo, but a disturbed man with ego issues and behaves creepily around his actresses.
So I'm curious to see this film due to the praise its getting, but I wonder if making it a quirky comedy was the right approach.

Anyone think it's hilarious Tommy Wiseau was at The Golden Globes last night?

I forget Hi still had his account here, lol. Anyway absolutely loved it. Franco killed it as Wiseau, and the film in general was one of the funniest films I've seen all years. Having it focus more on the relationship between Tommy and Greg, then just specifically about the making of The Room was genius.

Enjoyed the book. Been skeptical of the movie, mainly the casting. The whole thing kind of looks like an extended SNL sketch.

I LOVED this movie. Haven't laughed that hard at a movie in a long time. I read a favorable review of the film that said it's not necessary to have seen THE ROOM to enjoy this movie. I completely disagree. I'm not even sure I would have liked THE DISASTER ARTIST if I hadn't already seen THE ROOM. Am I wrong?

Douchebags and hipsters are way too obsessed with The Room, as if it's the only bad movie ever made. TDA is a bore. I skipped to the end which was decent.

I completely disagree. I'm not even sure I would have liked THE DISASTER ARTIST if I hadn't already seen THE ROOM. Am I wrong? i feel the same way. Without seeing the Room it will still be a well made movie. But anyone could hardly appreciate A) the degree of similarity between both the movies and actors and B) the hilarity of all of this being based on a really true story. I loved the mid credits and post credits scenes too. I couldn't believe just HOW similar they made it, it must have taken an insane attention to detail. Both Franco brothers excelled in their roles too. What a great movie. Well done. I really wish he would get Oscar nominated for it. It was both really funny and touching.

I found it to be a very interesting biopic about the cast behind The Room, particularly of Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero relationship, and what lead up to the making of The Room. James Franco certainly has the best performance as Wiseau, as did Dave Franco as Sestero. While this film, of course, has its funny moments due to the nature of the history that lead up to the 2003 movie, it also had some serious moments and conflicts that took place between characters too.
8/10

so if you are anything like me, you kinda like Tommy, (the actual guy, not the character, however intertwined they are, lets go with real Tommy) and even empathize with him to a certain degree. One its for his intense passion to create (how many of us here suffer from the same) and secondly for his bare yet fragile (while manipulative and self-centered) psyche he shows to us (intentionally or not). I actually also like his laughter while I find it obscure and ill fitting almost anywhere he uses it.
Question: if you like Tommy, did you start to like him:
A) when you originally saw the Room B) after the Room was released and became this significant movie and you learned about him as a director and person, but before Disaster Artist C) Due to Disaster Artist, (i) because learning even more about him and/or (ii) because how likable Franco made him.
and can you connect it to a particular moment and motivation?
