That dark hole in Luke's island that called to Rey... what was the purpose? They made it sound like it was this dark force that was calling to Rey which Rey immediately felt gravitated to. When Rey pokes her head into it she gets sucked down. Then she touches that mirror and then.... nothing. Bunch of reflections to show her... herself. Uhm... what?
Why even bother with that scene? With that plot? It felt like a complete waste of time.

Even Luke said it was the Darkside calling to her. But once she goes in, there's no Darkside aura to the place, viscerally speaking. And as you pointed out, Rey's vision doesn't lead to any metaphorical revelation like Luke's did in TESB (which had several interpretations). Conversations between Rey and Kylo later in the movie prove that the vision was just a mysterious dead end.

It's very clever this - Obviously copying the Luke scene from ESB but, whereas there we got a foreshadowing of Luke / Vader's relationship, here we just get Rey, Rey and even more Rey! Who needs anyone else?
Plus notice the mistiness and reflections. They're there for a reason - it's an elaborate joke on the fans: Rey's parents? It was all literally smoke and mirrors. F** you guys...
Similar meta joke to Han's "That's not how the force works" line.
