I find old school baseball fascinating.
Love the movie 'The Natural'.
I picture teams traveling in buses and the players are up until 4:00 in the morning playing poker, drinking liquor and smoking cigars and then being hung over after a few hours of sleep for the next day game - only to do it all over again the same day after a game.....

...the movie "Cobb" starring Tommy Lee Jones as Cobb is a very disturbing look at a man who was widely despised even by his own teammates and family. His baseball records are truly amazing.

So back then it was booze and smoking tobacco and now it's just chewing tobacco with PEDs added into the mix. When they made records, it was more real and genuine without any extra boost. And it really was the World Series since America was still the main country that played baseball. And The Natural. Great, great movie and glad I have a copy.

It is one of those movies that draws you in no matter what scene happens to come on. There is not a boring moment in it. Are you aware that it is based on a book and the book has a different ending?

Hmmm... That is one way of looking at it and I never thought of it. I just watch and enjoy it for how it is. So how do you see "The Judge" in terms of being part of your philosophy on the movie? This is a separate question but also relates to The Judge and Gus. Gus was a gambler and made money when Hobbs was in a slump since he bet against him. But why is he associated with The Judge? What does he have to gain in their relationship? And do you think Gus and Memo had sex? He is her Sugar Daddy. Is she just working for him to put the hot player in a slump or is there more to what she does for him?

...the movie "Cobb" starring Tommy Lee Jones as Cobb is a very disturbing look at a man who was widely despised even by his own teammates and family. His baseball records are truly amazing. "Cobb" was taken from Al Stump's book (Robert Wuhl in the film). Stump was a bigger asshole than Cobb. Exhibit #1, the death of Cobb's father. The autopsy reports clearly says he died from a pistol shot, not a shotgun. Not only did Stump spread that lie, he stole the shotgun from Cobb after his death (and a lot of other valuable memorabilia, which Stump profited from handsomely) www.smithsonianmag.com/history/the-knife-in-ty-cobbs-back-65618032/Yes Cobb was a racist. A middle class white, born in rural Georgia 11 years after the end of the Civil War a racist, not out of the norm. He also funded hospitals in Georgia that treated blacks. You can't expect 21st Century thinking on a 19th Century person.

Is she just working for him to put the hot player in a slump or is there more to what she does for him? Yeah. The many questions you ask show it's way more than just about baseball (and the baseball aspects are tremendous) There's lust, greed, deceit, death, jealousy, redemption - with a love story intertwined as well. 'The Judge' - Greed, Envy, Deceit - wasn't he trying to take full ownership from Pop? Didn't care if he was putting out an abysmal product - offered Hobbs money to throw the series Gus - Typical Bookie. No concern for others other than his own wellbeing (would probably stab The Judge in the back if the money and circumstances were right) - Memo is playing him the whole time like she plays everybody - she's in it for the money and lifestyle - the two deserve each other - and yes - I'd think they slept together. Women like Memo use 'that' for manipulation purposes. She's the female version of Gus to an extent. She plays people for her own benefit. She's working for him in the sense - she'll be there until something better comes along. Master manipulator. Great movie.

Wilford Brimley plays the serious "takes no guff from anyone" manager perfectly. Before the old IMDb boards shut down, there was discussion if Memo influenced Roy's stomach attack when she fed him that thing at the party. I think it's coincidence. I was always under the impression that the slug somehow started to bother him at that same time. What do you think? Or did she poison him and then they happened to find the bullet slug?
