In the middle of a death duel with my father as opposed to creeping around like a perv in the middle of the night. This is a horrible argument, dude. In one scene, he's being hunted by a known serial killer who wants to kill him and his sister and all his friends. In the other, his adversary is counting sheep! C'mon man, you gotta do better than this! Now you're going off the rails. Yoda told him he had to go confront Vader. If taking Yoda's advice is impulsive behavior, I'd like your idea of controlled wisdom. Bullshit. Per TLJ's own stupid plot thread, he's the reason (or at least he believes he's the reason) for Kylo becoming Kylo. Even a decent, normal human being would face that failure and try to make it right. Luke is the most powerful Force user in the galaxy and actually can make a difference, but instead hides like a whiny coward on an island? He may as well have been the one to slice up Han himself since it's directly due to Luke's chickenshittery that Han even had to be the hero of TFA in the first place. Did you see Han? The look on his face when Leia told him to confront Kylo? He was like, "me? You serious? Shouldn't one of you Force users try to talk to the guy who kills people using the Force?" Lol, Han had no business confronting Kylo without the help of someone more powerful. That was Luke's job and Luke shirked it like a punk. Or maybe he should have just been like OT Luke and focus on saving his friends, which in turn, helps save the galaxy. IF it ain't broke, don't fix it. Why would I want to be a Jedi? Didn't you hear Luke in TLJ? The Jedi suck! They're the reason the galaxy has gone to shit. He doesn't believe in them...why should I?

It was real to him .It was like having the opportunity to kill Hitler and don't do it. Well he didn't nevertheless. Yoda said he must confront Vader, not confront Vader in the middle of an operation that he put in jeopardy by his selfishness. Cut that part out what you got? The rebels win Darth Vader is dead the emperor is dead. Only thing he accomplished was become a Jedi and redeem his father. Great for the Galaxy. Not. Great for him! Well I couldn't kill my nephew, even if he was a monster could you? He shied from becoming a monster by going after his nephew. Maybe he should go after him and kill him out try to redeem him. But he didn't. He chose to stay away instead of making things worse. Like he should have made in endor. All the great Jedi Masters shy from intervening because things can go worse. Obi-wan waited for him to come not impose his presence or go against the wishes of the larses. Could he have saved Han? Probably, but kylo? Not a chance. It's an impossible choice even for him. Were he not Ben solo things could have gone differently. This Luke is different, I get why people are upset, I really do, they were expecting him jumping around and doing great stuff. He is infinitely more interesting being flawed than being the almighty Jedi everyone expected. Sorry to the other guy, I skimmed his post, didn't care to answer, he seems belligerent. And now I really am going to sleep lol third time the charm.

I see you skipped the fit of rage I had with my father and almost killed him but stopped in time just like I did with my nephew. And no he was selfish in endor, he just believed he wasn't. Not being selfish was not going at all. But he does that because he's impulsive. Someday that impulsiveness would go wrong. It did. And he didn't let anyone die, are you crazy, he's a Jedi, not a Demi God that could save the Galaxy singlehandedly. Or maybe he can, by being the legend that unites the people. He's so much more now then he could ever be physically. From a certain point of view. Mine. You have yours leave it at that. Be a Jedi. There was no "fit of rage" with Ben Solo. Luke made a choice to murder his nephew. In Jedi Luke is about 20 and new to the Force. In the TLJ he is 50 and studied it for years. To compare a 20 year old man being provoked into a rage by a threat to his sister and a 50 year old planning to murder his nephew in his sleep is dumb.

Want to know more about Snoke, who he is and what's his past? F*ck you! We'll kill him off without telling you anything. Want to know who Rey's parents are and where they're from? F*ck you! They're a bunch of nobody junkers who are of no significance. Want to know why Rey is so darn strong with the force and can master anything with but a thought? F*ck you! She's a nobody and apparently anybody can be that strong with the force. Want to see the movie give Princess Leia a heroic ending? F*ck you! We'll give her powers so she can resurrect from the dead and then we'll keep her alive till the next movie even if we have to use pure CGI. Waited for 3 decades just to watch Luke Skywalker back in action? F*ck you! We'll make him mope around the entire movie and then kill himself off by doing an illusion. Want to know what made Kylo Ren so dark even as a teen? F*ck you! He had a lot of darkness in him because we said so. No other explanation needed. Wanted to see Rey get some jedi training montage? F*ck you! We'll make her spar against a rock and get 3 lessons from Luke then Mary Sue the rest. Feel free to add your own F*ck yous. Well said--I'll add "Want to see Finn go off on an exciting adventure that will help the rebels?" Nahhh we'll just hook him up with some Asian chick and go off on a boring pointless trip that results in a bunch of rebels getting killed

You were interested in the Knights of Ren? Fuck you, we're not even going to address that plot thread. You wanted an honorable send off to Ackbar? Fuck you! We'll write a character/sequence that would be perfect for Ackbar to play and even give that character a helluva send off, but instead of having Ackbar in the role, we'll introduce a brand new dead end character! You wanted to know how Luke's light saber was going to tie in to the mystery of what has happened over the last 30 years, how it was discovered and why's it's significant to Rey? Fuck you! We're just going to have Luke toss it over this shoulder like a scrap of garbage. You wanted to get into Phasma's character a little more? Oh, sure, little buddy, all of us on the creative team have been quoted about how she's going to play a larger role in upcoming films, so just wait...LOL, just kidding, fuck you! We're going to make her even more of a nothing muffin in this movie than in the previous one. "I'll not kill my own father... But I will kill my own nephew! A child! While he is sleeping! It'll be fun!" "This'll be great! I'll just hollow him out like a tauntaun while he's in his sleeping bag. It'll be like being inside a hot pocket - inside another hot pocket! I think I'll call it... Ben Pocket Hot Pocket TM!"

"I'll not kill my own father... But I will kill my own nephew! A child! While he is sleeping! It'll be fun!" I left Yoda behind, pleading for me to stop, just so I could fly to Bespin on a suicide mission to help my friends. I turned myself in on Endor (on another suicide mission) to help keep my friends safe. My dad threatened my sister and all my friends and I took mercy on him. I refused to try to kill Palpatine. But yep, after all that, and after getting 30 years older, which, by practical definition should mean I'm wiser and less angry, not only will I try to murder my own nephew after smelling a hint of evil on him, but then I'll refuse to help my friends out (of the mess I created) when they need me more than ever. Fuck you! - Luke Skywalker in TLJ. I am beginning to think all of you haters have not actually watched the film. He thinks about it, hesitates, and ultimately decides not to do it. He had a moment of weakness and he even acknowledges it. He changes his mind, but by then Kylo wakes up and sees him and it is too late.

He went into his nephew's sleeping chamber and had intentions to murder a defenseless person. If that doesn't wreak of character devolution, I don't know what does.

He had the urge to do it, even ignite the lighsaber. But he stopped himself. Big difference. And only because he already knew what was going to happen to him. But even so he stopped himself. No devolution there. Evolution actually. He finnaly took his own decisions without the help of force ghosts or other exterior influences.

Urge is defined by a sudden feeling of having to do something it's visceral. Intention menas it's a well thought out plan. Wich it wasn't.

Once again, you obviously slept through that part. That is not what happened. He even explains this when he tells Rey the story. He knew there was darkness in Kylo. He went in there to see it and looked into his soul. He saw the evil in him and it was worse than he ever imagined. In a split second of weakness, he pulled his light saber. He changed his mind, but it was too late by then.

All you did was reword what I already wrote. If you want to try the semantic route with my use of the word "intention" like the other apologist on this thread did, be my guest. It will avail you nothing. I was an English major, so I'm more than willing to get into the boring world of word definition and etymology if you are.

My experience with it is double sided. On the one hand my SW fan-nerdness was disappointed. On the other hand my movie goer experience was satisfied as it is a good movie and has lots to enjoy about it. I'm on the fence.
As a sci-fi adventure movie its good, as a SW movie its a let down. That's the best way I can put it.

Totally changes the meaning of the phrase. Try again with your lousy reading comprehension. I NEVER said he thought about, walked in and intended to do it. I said he walked in....and had intentions.

You want to talk semantics in this statement? It has a very clear meaning and we know exactly what you meant by this post. You can try to deflect now and point out the 'and', but it does not change anything. Why don't you check with you high school English teacher on the way to properly express yourself through writing and get back with me.
