List'em here, highs & lows... instead of 99,000 threads scattered about one topic at a time...
SPOILERS because obviously.
+
- Kamikaze hyperspace collision. F'ing epic. Silence, wide shot, explosion... I can't remember the last time I saw such an awesome visual effect so stunning. Maybe Avatar 3D.
- Rey was handled fine I thought, except for the cave which I guess can be chalked up her weakness is being alone. It could've been another parade of her running around cluelessly with powers, at least they made her aware & also didn't give her superpowers like I was afraid of.
- I liked Luke projecting onto the battlefield. As soon as I saw his darkened beard, I knew something was up- it was how Kylo remembered him. I also like that it took everything left of him to accomplish that feat. We don't need such powers to all of a sudden become normalized.
- Other than a few odd lines (like the f'n cell phone bs gags in the opening scene no less) I'm good with the so called Marvelization of the dialogue. It's plain as day that Disney wanted to deliver some GoG style lightness to the script. Poe they were soo obviously trying to let him be SW Tony Stark.
- The puffin creatures on Luke's rock were fine. From the trailer & Ewok 2.0 chatter I was afraid they might even be given 'save the day' nonsense moments.
-
- Snoke, a paper tiger. Cpt.Phasma, offed, & Rey daughter of no one. I'm okay with those as swerves for TLJ proper, yet now TFA is neutered some yes? How should I put TFA on credible ground when those points are wiped away so easily. Which in turn will undercut the legacy of this trilogy years down the road n'est pas?
My biggest hope from TFA was that Snoke would either be an awesome evil doer or even some Sith apprentice type in charge... instead he got the Darth Maul treatment we'll never know about. Now the evil arc depends entirely on Kylo Ren... I wonder if Disney kills or saves him.
- The power play Laura Dern of the Rebellion... as critics have said, the sacrifice payoff for her character was fine... it was the leading us on like she was an evil pawn bitch which was so f'n needless. I was seriously considering her a plant of Kylo Ren. It also undermines Poe who lives.
- Leia Poppins I'm not questioning as much as how it was presented. I guess they did give us Luke & Leia's uber Force powers on full display for their curtain calls.
- Casino planet belongs in GL prequels. I went to the washroom as the horse race/escape thing began... got back in my seat before that was done. I missed nothing - Best. Theatre. Bathroom. Break. Timing. Ever.
I had to watch 3D which I tried to avoid, to no avail with the holiday showtimes. 2D were prime time & I preferred to go midday. The 3D was nice in the space shots, otherwise pretty pointless.
