Is to miss the point of the entire Star Wars franchise.
As well as miss the point of Yoda's teachings.
Luke already delivered a brutal Jedi lightsaber beatdown in Return of the Jedi, against his own father, no less.
No longer a mere Jedi Knight or a mere Jedi Master, Luke is now a full Force Jedi God, way beyond mere lightsaber battles.
"A Jedi craves not these things."

I didn't need a light saber battle. The film didn't understand Luke Skywalker. It was a brainless, soulless comedy trip with wacky, one-dimensional characters and virtually no plot.

Obiwan vs. Grievous was ok? Windu vs Palpatine was ok? Yoda vs Palpatine was ok? Obiwan vs Anakin was okay? And expecting Luke to have a proper ending is wrong? wtf?
Luke didn't have to deliver a "Brutal Jedi Lightsaber Beatdown", whatever that means. He just had to have a real and heroic end. He didn't have that here. There's any number of ways he could have gone out without jumping around like a jack ass. Admiral Holdo had a better end! Luke created an illusion and then died from exertion. FROM EXERTION! wtf
And if he was such a "full Force Jedi God" then why'd he die from exertion? (fucking exertion, man!!!) And why couldn't he save Kylo from the dark side like he did Vader, or defeat Snoke himself, or just have a better ending?!

It worked in the days pre Qui Gon's return with the wisdom of the Whills.

I completely see your point. I do. Palpatine himself disdained lightsabers because he believed real Force Users grew beyond the need for crude things like lightsabers.
But fuck the wasted opportunities. I wanted Mark Hamill to do more modern lightsaber fights before he's too old like Ian McDiarmid. Lightsaber fights are cool.

"Lightsaber fights are cool" You must have love the prequels... Oh fuck off with the prequel hate. Its old and incessant. I wasn't even meaning the prequel style. Why do you presume I want the overly dance-y PT lightsabers? Why do you exclude the OT? Its the 2010s now, we don't have to pick either prequel style only or OT style only. We can improve. Let Mark Hamill do a direct style like the OT, but much better.

Just for different reasons that i love the OT and the ST. I for one thought terrific the way they dispatched snoke's guards. You kust wanted a pure lightsaber on lightsaber duel is that it? I rather have new cool moves like grabbing a lightsaber and switching it on for a fraction of a second against someones eye. You know something new. But that's just me.

Mark Hamill was still young enough and spry enough to deliver that. But now? Done.
Hey, with any luck someone will do a Luke Skywalker stand alone prequel movie before Hamill gets too old! Maybe tell the story of what happened at his new Jedi temple? Or a story that takes place between that and his isolation on the island? I'd go see that, as long as Rian Johsnon didn't direct it. LOL
