This is all true. My brakes on my truck needed new brake pads. Go in and guy behind the desk does my paper work. Gives it to one of the mechanics. He pulls my truck in and starts working on it. From their waiting room I can see the work area. In comes an old lady wanting an oil and filter change. He does the paper work and gives it to the same guy working on my brakes. He pulls her car into another stall and continues working on my truck. The lady tells the guy behind the desk she is going across the street to have lunch. He says OK it should be done when you get back. About 45 minutes to an hour later the lady comes back. He gets out her paper work and hands it to her. She pays him. No problem right. Wrong. I sat there the whole time and they never did one thing to her car. They never even opened the hood. While she is paying I go outside. When she comes out I tell her what I saw. She was polite and said thanks. Then she just drove off.
IMO that is disgraceful taking advantage of people like that. Needless to say I never went back there again.

Didn't you tell this story already? That's her own fault for leaving for so long. And you waited until after she paid to tell her? You're even worse than the auto shop.

Yes I did tell this before and its worth repeating if it will help someone from getting ripped off. And you say "You're even worse than the auto shop." I'm going to start something with that guy while he is still working on my brakes. Nope. I told the lady and it was up to her to do something. And I am pretty sure she did. Read my post about this on the politics board.

You Waited For Her To Pay Before You Told Her A Thing!

If she was cool about it then it has police sting written all over it. That's fraud.

I have to disagree with you on this. You don't want your truck/car held while you are aiding in a dispute with an auto shop with a third party. No telling what horrible things they can do to your vehicle... At the very least they could just stop working on it midway through the job.

I get what you are saying but did you read his first story? the shop did jack shit to the lady's car. never touched it. I didn't say he should have said anything but was wondering why he waited until she had ALREADY PAID. sorry, I come from a house where we did most of our regular car maintenance by ourselves.

No, I do most of my own maintenance too outside of tires (I have no way of balancing and mounting them). What I'm getting at is that if he told the lady in the shop that they didn't do anything to her car there could have easily have been a confrontation that might have prevented the work on his truck/car being finished and all sorts of ugly things could have happened. I never would take my car to a shop for oil changes though (or transmission fluid for that matter). My wife (before we were married) took her Mazda 3 to the dealer for a "free" oil change early in its life and the "mechanic" cracked the plastic housing for the cartridge filter. She drove about 10 miles down the road before she noticed that her entire back windshield (it was a hatchback) was coated with an oily film. Glad she stopped before the engine grenaded.

Glad she stopped before the engine grenaded. i get what you are saying about confrontation. i hate the motto see something say something that nyc has. however, he should have pulled her aside before she paid if he was going to say anything at all. and to top it all off he is congratulating himself with posting this story time after time after time. and, she was partially at fault going to get something to eat and taking a long time. i can understand getting a coffee and bagel from down the street and returning, eating there while you wait but she kind of went and sat down at the place. even so, i would ask to see a report of what was done and why it was needed before i paid. i know all about places taking advantage of customers. my sister once took one of our cars to get it inspected and thanks to her waiting and not leaving the place, she was able to stop them from putting 4 new tires on the car. they pretended our mother called and said to put all 4 tires on the car and we all know that if anyone makes any decisions regarding the cars it would be our father. so that was fishy 1. and we all know where we would get new tires [that were not an emergency] and that would be sears and then Costco when they started selling them. so that was fishy 2. then when my sister tried calling our mother to double check they were bitchy about it, so that was fishy 3. then my sister called our father and had them speak [listen to him scream] to him and after the call was over they told the guys to give the car back to my sister right then and there. they didn't charge her at all and we took it to another place. and this is because she stayed.

Geez, that's crazy. Inspection for vehicles in Texas (where I live) is a joke. New(er) cars are just hooked up to a computer and they just run a scan to make sure the systems are all running right and the car isn't polluting more than it should be. I don't even think they look at the tires or headlights anymore as long as you have all of them. haha. Older cars (can't remember the cut off, I think before they instituted OBD II), just have a safety inspection but once they are 25 years old you can even get exempted from that if you register the car as a classic (you are supposed to just use the car for pleasure). I get your point about the OP's story. I didn't realize it was posted before. This is the first time I saw it.
