While William Castle not only directed some real fun horror like House on Haunted Hill, Homicidal and Strait-Jacket, he also was a screenwriter of this IMO pretty underrated flick Based on the novel of Thomas Page and directed by Jeannot Szwarc I think this is really a good if not great creature movie from the 1970s. While it might lack the apocalyptic feeling like the later Kingdom of the Spiders (1977) this is a movie that combines nice visuals and pretty cool effects with psychological elements and the demise of a professor who is way too eager to study the dangerous species. I for one think it was a brilliant concept having cockroaches with capabilities to burn flesh and feed on the ashes. Not sure what people who gave this a low rating were expecting of this one. 5.2 on bloody imdb

I know I've seen it, but my memory is very hazy. Outside of Bradford Dillman's character transformation.
It hardly gets mentioned, when people list their favourite nature-runs-amok films.

I actually read the book this was based on before seeing the movie. It was called "The Hephaestus Plague" and was pretty good, if memory serves me. The movie itself was somewhat laughable.
