Wait? What? How? First of all let me say I just got back from seeing it. Me and my whole family were cracking up and we all loved it. This movie definitely had the heart of the original.
I guess I'm a little surprised. I mean a lot of the humor feels very hit or miss. Not that the humor is bad because it isn't it's just it's not something everyone is gonna laugh at. Truthfully this felt like a movie that should have had a Rotten on RT.
I do applaud them though because they did make this movie feel fresh and everyone played their parts so well. Clearly everyone was having a good time working on this movie.
What is your thoughts on this?

Perhaps they found its lack of pretense refreshing? I'm just betting that Disney will fast track that 'Jungle Cruise' movie.

I don't think it's a bad thing that it's at 77%. I think it's wonderful. It's just shocking though because I didn't check the score at all this week. I thought it was only gonna be in the 50's.
I really think had Robin Williams been around,he would have really enjoyed this and possibly had a role in the movie.

Oh believe me, I think its warm reception is the second biggest surprise thus far. It's funny because the original movie still has a rotten score in the fifties.

I saw it today and enjoyed it very much. I liked much more than the original. I don't care about RT scores but I gave it 8/10.

I would give it a 4, maybe a 5 and I would be generous.
I had low expectations and it was even lower. Good thing Robin didn't have his name associated to this.

It was a great movie, Kevin Hart was funny, the four leads had great chemistry, and the action scenes were solid. If I were to make a couple of small nitpicks, I'd say that the villain could have been more fleshed out, because there was only really one major scene where his motives were explained, and that Nick Jonas' character lacked the comedy chops and the chemistry of the leads, but his character did provide an answer to two mysteries from the start of the film, and gave us a reference to Robin Williams' character from the first film.
Overall, a funny and enjoyable experience, Kevin Hart is a show stealer here. 9/10.
And for anyone interested, the trailers I got in front of the film were Downsizing and The Greatest Showman

Just got back and agree. It's a fun family adventure that's also a legitimately solid video game movie.

I liked it. For one thing it avoided souring the audience right off the bat by NOT being a reboot, it's merely a continuation of the story. It doesn't pretend the first Jumanji movie never happened, it's just a new story about new people getting sucked into the games' shenanigans. It even has a few call-backs to the first film that feel natural instead of forced.
Yes, there's no cameos from the first cast or overt mention of them (except one for Robin Williams' character)...but there didn't need to be.

I liked it and wished it was a little longer than the 90 minutes running time.
