I really can't figure out how they pulled this off without cracking up! This must've required so many takes. I never could have pulled this off. And funny thing is, somehow I always manage to find new goofy oddities each time I watch it that I didn't recall. What a hoot. They don't break character either!

Airplane! is one of the greatest comedies of all time. 8/10.

They used actors who had mostly heron in serious dramas before Airplane!

Try to watch the 1957 film "Zero Hour!" and not crack up. The cockpit is not much better than "Plan 9 From Outer Space."
There are actually two different versions of "Airplane!" out there with different jokes. One was more suitable for network telvion. Paramount also did this with a couple of other films around the same time. I think they were "Grease" and "Saturday Night Fever."

Wouldn't you love to see the outtakes?

It's hard to imagine that this comedy/parody, that I enjoy very much, paved the way for all those lousy parodies that for awhile seemed to flood the market. For those who hasn't heard the comments on the DVD extra I would like to try to quote something I thought was funny "Lloyd Bridges didn't understand the jokes in the script, untill Robert Stack explained to him that the joke was them, Robert and Lloyd that was the big joke, saying crazy things in a serious manner" It should also by mentioned that around a year before Airplane came out, Concorde - Airplane '80 came out, that is also in a way a laugh riot, though it was made as a serious adventure...

Try to watch the 1957 film "Zero Hour!" and not crack up. I CAN'T! I watched "Airplane!" several times, BEFORE I ever watched "Zero Hour!"... and when I did, all I could think of was "Airplane!"... I could not take the film seriously. It's the same with some other jokes. " The White Zone is for the immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in the White Zone." I've heard that in a few other Movies & TV Shows, and I think back to "Airplane!"... and I start wondering when they will start talking about "Abortions". ROTFWL! And Don't Call Me Shirley!

Rumack: Captain, how soon can you land?
Captain Oveur: I can't tell.
Rumack: You can tell me. I'm a doctor.
Captain Oveur: No. I mean I'm just not sure.
Rumack: Well, can't you take a guess?
Captain Oveur: Well, not for another two hours.
Rumack: You can't take a guess for another two hours?

I thought Airplane II had its moments, too...especially the "beware of vacuum" closet, not to mention seeing Captain Kirk on what you think is a screen, and it's just a door with a window in it.

I loved it, when he saw the Enterprise, while looking through the periscope. The "SHHH" doors were cool too... "0.5 WORP"

The whole sequence of Airplane II with William Shatner is totally amazing.

I haven't seen AIRPLANE for years either Merrida. But I saw it on the big screen back in the day (under the title FLYING HIGH) and vividly remember laughing and laughing and laughing so hard my sides ached.
