Name better acting post 2000 than Daniel Day Lewis in "There Will Be Blood"
I will say a few nominations are
Casey Affleck in "The Assassination of Jessie James by the Coward Robert Ford"
and
Javier Bardem in "No Country for Old Men"
I don't believe those two are better at acting in their role than Daniel Day Lewis, but I do believe they are the top 3 performances of the past 17 years.
Disagree? Thoughts? Think someone is better than all three?

Not the entire movie, but the scene in Shutter Island when Leo finds his daughters dead in the lake is one of the best acted scenes I have ever seen in any medium.

Maybe not better but Heath Ledger in the dark knight is a damn fine acting performance. Its rare to see an actor disappear into their character like that. Especially in a superhero movie.

That was a great character acting job. That wasn't just great acting in a comic book role, but damn good overall period. I'd say it's in the top 10 of the last 20 years.

I was not as into the movie as everyone else, but the acting from everyone in Birdman was insane. It carried the movie for me. In fact, I think the movie would have just been average at best without it. The first scene during the stage practice with Norton and Keaton was seriously a masterpiece in acting.

I don't know if it was the acting per se, but the directing style. It was good, don't get me wrong, but everyone acted better in that film, from Keaton, Norton, even Stone.

Benicio Del Toro as Dr. Gonzo Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison Gary Oldman as DrexlGary Oldman as DraculaThe OP specified that we are only to consider acting from 2001 to the present. I missed it at first too. I was thinking of Spencer Tracy and other similar actors. Then I read the post more closely.

DDL in TWBB is definitely hard to top. Joaquin Phoenix in The Master is right up there though.

On film Daniel Day Lewis in Lincoln , i havent seen there will be blood but every performance of him gets better than the last one. He is the best movie actor right now.
Now not better than Daniel Day Lewis but on the same level we have Hugh Laurie he is incredible his performance as Dr House was very much on the same level of many oscar winners. Many actors have tried to immitate what he did on house and no one has accomplish that. His comedic timing is wonderful and his dramatic moments are pure gold
Another great actor is Ralph Fiennes who always finds his way to make the most hatable monsters human and feel a little sorry for them and he is also a very good leading man he was incredible in The English Patient and The End of the affair
So id say the threee best actors alive are
Daniel Day Lewis Hugh Laurie Ralph Fiennes

Roger Allam in The Tempest and Henry IV (I know these are just recorded stage performances, but they were shown theatrically).

Can I say Bryan Cranston in "Breaking Bad" even if it was a TV show?
