‘WE NEED TO HELP WORLD GET READY TO MEET JESUS,’ OVERCOME INTELLECTUAL BARRIERSAlex McFarland has spent the past 25 years sitting down with people who don’t believe in God and asking them, “Why?” “Some are unchurched. Others are de-churched — they have grown up in church and have an evangelical background but have intellectual barriers to knowing Jesus,” he said. But McFarland, director of the Center for Christian Worldview and Apologetics at North Greenville University in Tigerville, South Carolina, said there’s often a common thread. “Emotional pain is usually the catalyst for intellectual doubt,” he said. It can be: “My dad was a deacon and he abused us, how can that be?” Or it could be: “We were a good church-going family and my mom got cancer; we fasted, we prayed and she still died.” The questions begin emotionally, but as life progresses they lead into intellectual questions, McFarland said. “This is true for even the most well-known atheists.” That’s why apologetics, the discipline of defending the faith through reason, is so important — Christians need to be ready to answer those intellectual questions, McFarland said. And that’s the message he brought to those participating in the Feb. 27 opening session of the two-day Alabama Baptist State Evangelism Conference held at First Baptist Church, Pelham. ‘Will be held accountable’ “We need to help the world get ready to meet Jesus,” McFarland said as he developed his message from 1 John 2. “Let tonight be a regrounding of your priorities.www.thealabamabaptist.org/we-need-to-help-world-get-ready-to-meet-jesus-overcome-intellectual-barriers/In short, because the religious insist on pushing their crap on the a-religous

Interesting that he thinks the path to atheism starts with some sort of emotional issue. But then I guess he has to believe that, because otherwise he'd be forced to accept that honest intellectual inquiry can lead one to reject religious belief. Which would kind of invalidate his religion.

That is absolute projection - to claim that people are atheists because of emotional reasons; when emotional attachment is literally the only reason for belonging to a religion (apart from just sheer ignorance, of which he accuses atheists earlier in the article "intellectual barriers to knowing Jesus" ).

What in that article indicates that he is pushing crap on you? What does he do since from what I can tell from the article the dude is saying that CChristians need to be prepared to answer stuff: However, I get it. The whiny atheist thinks he is forced to convert when a JW knocks on their door and they are compelled to answer it too.
Most rational people would simply say that advertising, defending, explaining is neither conversion or persecution.
Still no case to be made.

Thats a factor all right but I thnk the main reason is the "A-religious" have an axe to grind on the subject for personal reasons. I use to be like that when I was a kid, I have since matured.

I find this idea that "atheists won't leave the religious alone" a bit weird.
Atheists aren't the ones pushing to teach atheism in schools. Atheists aren't the ones who literally stand on the street yelling at people that they should believe in god. Atheists aren't the ones who will walk up and knock on your door and preach at you. Atheists aren't the ones who push science denial in politics.
If anybody won't leave others alone, it's theists. Not all, of course. But many.

Interesting that he thinks the path to atheism starts with some sort of emotional issue. That's because it does. You and Yojimbo are prime examples, as if Worov.

Awww, it's cute that you're pretending you know something about me. But as usual, you're wrong. I was born an atheist and have never been anything else.

I was born an atheist and have never been anything else. Approximately half of you boys were "born atheist" (translation, taught from the cradle by atheist parents). Your emotional need is to please Daddy.

And my parents never taught me to be an atheist, so you're wrong again. Newp. Guess again. I must say, it's amusing that you've clearly put so much thought into me, though. It's quite telling that I get under your skin so badly.

I am not Ada, You are Ada, liar. Lol, what a nice non-sequiteur. You accuse me of being raised as an atheist by atheist parents, which I was not. But then you say you were, so... this makes your point? You're losing it, dear. You should go get some sleep or something.
