I watched it last week and I don't know if I should give it a 4/10 or a 3/10. I really didn't like the movie and there were multiple parts where I was angry at what they did in the movie. However, some of the performances are good and a couple of ideas about the wall and what's beyond are interesting and intruiging. But unfortunately it's executed so bad that an interesting premise can't save it. Many moments don't make any sense and some moments that need to be serious and sad are funny because of the way they're shot. The plot was also very predictable and there were times where I didn't know if what was happening was real or a joke. Tbh it's probably closer to a 3/10 than a 4/10 for me. I'll probably watch the last part(s) one day out of morbid curiosity.

3/10 there were multiple parts where I was angry at what they did in the movie. Many moments don't make any sense and some moments that need to be serious and sad are funny because of the way they're shot. there were times where I didn't know if what was happening was real or a joke. Can you please specify each one? I'm curious. I may miss a few of them, but here they are (spoilers): *The multiple dream sequences were so obvious and were therefore very annoying. You already know it's going to be some king of intense scene with finally actual character development that will be completely undone by the reveal that it's a dream sequence. Maybe it would've been a 4/10 if they just got rid of all those dream sequences. The dream sequence with Tobias' mother was one of the worst ones. *The most annoying one of all wasn't exactly a 'dream', but the constant reveals that Beatrice was still in the simulation. The first time that happened I was kinda surprised that they did that, but then they did it again and again and became very annoying. I was like 'Wow, surprise, she's still in the simulation... again'. *The simulation where she saves her mother from a burning house defies all logic. I get that laws of physics aren't really a thing in the simulation where there's a floating house, but there are multiple times where there was no change that Beatrice could've survived something or reached a certain point. *The green screens were also so obvious at times and removed all tension from the scene. There's also a scene in slow-motion near the end (of course also not real, but in the simulation) where Beatrice attacks Jeanine and it was hilarious. It wasn't emotional or powerful at all, which I think was their intention. *There's one scene where people from the government come and shoot everyone with these dart-like serum things that put everyone to sleep. However, it takes ages before Beatrice finally gets hit. I couldn't take that scene serious anymore. There were many people with guns and she had no cover at all and she still didn't get hit. *It may just be a nitpick, but this movie is so obvious in its directing and symbolism. There is one shot I remember where someone says something like 'We're not the enemy here' and then it cuts to Jeanine. Wow, I didn't know that yet. *The dialogue in this movie is atrocious at times. *The fight at Amity between Beatrice and Peter. It was obvious from the get go that the whole point of the scene was for them to fight in order for them to have a talk with the Amity people, because "we're Amity and fighting goes against everything we one-dimensional characters know". There are multiple times in the movie where Beatrice lets herself get angry even though it's very clear that people are trying to make her angry and she still falls for it. *The thing that detects if someone is Divirgent. It felt like a cheap way to solve the problem how to find divirgent people. *The sudden character shifts from good to evil. It felt like it was done for the shock factor and made no sense at all. There were long streches with zero character development and then suddenly a character shifts completely. And eventually the only way they justify it is, because he thinks Erudite is right and that he should stay with his faction. *Continuing on that point, this movie really showed how stupid it was to categorize people by specific classes like 'dauntless'. It worked okay in the first one, but it seems so weird that most people only have one general charatcer trait. It makes many of the characters very one-dimensional. *That stupid conversation between Tobias and the leader from Candor where he manages to convice the leader to hold the trial at Candor makes no sense at all. It couldn't be more obvious that Tobias is trying to persuade him and the leader openly falls for it. *Weird reactions from all of the characters. For example Beatrice is all angry at Tobias when they have done the trial and she says she didn't want to do it. However, before the trial Beatrice made didn't protest a lot and certainly didn't suggest what she was hiding. *And of course Beatrice has to walk away 'to protect others' after the serum chip attack and her friends will try to save her and get captured, because this wouldn't be a good YA movie if we don't have every single YA cliché in it. *Oh, luckily they didn't forget the 'I am my own enemy' cliché when she has to fight herself near the end of the movie. Of course, once again, this is a simulation. *Not a complaint, but I wanted to mention the getting on the train scene at the start. That's probably one of the only scenes in the movie where I thought "Hey, that's a pretty good scene". I liked that moment. *The exposition in this movie is terrible, almost 'After Earth' level. And even worse it's very forgettable. Usually I easily remember movies, but I've seen this one very recently and I still had to think for a while to come up with all of these things.
