Terrible news. Covenant had such a big cliffhanger ending. It's a shame we won't have a conclusion now.
I'm one of few that actually liked Covenant, and was looking forward to this.

Well, I didn't quite like it that much. But a continuation of David's horrifying experiments would have been fun to watch.

I'm sorry I saw no where in that link it had anything to do with Disney. Truthfully I don't see why Didney wouldn't want to continue making more Alien movies. They know it's a successful franchise.

All the above were terrible, especially Prometheus and Alien Covenant, both of which relied on making everyone into total idiots in order to progress the story.

Didn't bug me in Covenant. Nonetheless, I love them both and no amount of nitpicking will change my mind.

Many people, both critics and audiences alike, have cited the main casts of both films being utter morons as being a big deal-breaker for their enjoyable of the film. In fact, I would say their stupidity defies belief. How stupid do these scientists and experts have to be to make the "space truckers" of the original look like Einstein by comparison.

The bad decisions never bugged me. It did a couple times in 'Prometheus' but never in 'Covenant'.

I am very curious where this franchise is going to go under Disney. Maybe we'll get a couple films that please fans, general audiences and critics all around. While I personally love both the films we were discussing, i awkowledge their flaws and understand why people dislike them. It has been a bumpy ride for the franchise since Aliens like you said.

I would really like it if they stopped trying to be profound and failing at it the way Scott had been. I get the themes of Prometheus and Covenant, I really do, but it's all just a bunch of community college Intro to Philosophy bullcrap. I just want intelligent characters that don't make me go "Oh, you have to be kidding me!" every five minutes.

It sounds like Scott's direction is scratched. Even though I really wanted to see Scott's conclusion to David's story I'll be fine if we get something different as long as it's good. It's rough being a Alien fan. It's my favorite franchise and I'd hate to see it just die off on a low note.

It's not too rough if you're like me and just pretend no films were made after 1986 like I do most of the time. Problem with the Alien franchise is that it was never meant to keep going as long as it has. Anyway, to each their own, though.

Looks like it could be getting replaced with 'Alien 5' with the return of Ripley and on Studio 10 when Disney bought Fox they were talking about rebooting the entire franchise with a new actress playing Ripley. I never saw the other movies as proper 'Alien' movies without Ripley and while I am not saying they were bad Ripley is 'Alien' to me and making movies without her is like doing 'Die Hard' movies without John McClane. Time to bring back the star!!

I never saw the other movies as proper 'Alien' movies without Ripley and while I am not saying they were bad Ripley is 'Alien' to me and making movies without her is like doing 'Die Hard' movies without John McClane. Time to bring back the star!! Was the issue really about Ripley not being there or the fact they simply couldn't find a way to make another strong female lead? Like others said, the last 2 movies were filled with idiots and alien fodder. That's one difference in the crew but the biggest difference is that Ripley made rational and common sense decision, it's just that it wasn't always her call (like getting John Hurt on board)or things didn't go as expected but her judgment was always sound. Prometheus and Alien Covenant issues could be summarize with one scene from the movie Life (2017, www.imdb.com/title/tt5442430/?ref_=nv_sr_2 )* small spoiler if you haven't seen it (don't waste your time and money if you haven't)*: At some point only half the crew survived and they discuss how to deal with the creature. One guy suggest that they remotely control the doors to isolate it, starve it to death then separate the section from the space station and send it into deep space . Problem is, the leader is actually saying "no,no,no..." then one guy suggest splitting up and chasing the bastard around and she points at him and goes "yes"! That's pretty much how everything happened in Prometheus and Alien Covenant. They have to make though calls but it's always the "let's-dive-straight-into-the-puddle-of-shit-and-see-what-happens-after-were-neck-deep-into-it" mentality over the "play-safe-hoping-things-will-go-our-way" mentality that is ridiculous and tiring.
