On New Year's day I want to prepare a meal with Black-Eyed Peas, and maybe some pork. I'm not from the U.S. southern states, but since a former colleague who is from North Carolina told me about that tradition, I've had the them in some form on Jan. 1st. My luck seems to have held, so I'll keep it in the act. Leave us not tempt fate. I just received an email from a local store that focuses on Spanish foods, and wines. It's a great store, and they often share food/lifestyle bits-of-information with their customers. I didn't know that, in Spain, the sparkling wine ("Cava"), comes after the eating of 12 green grapes, all of which must be ingested while the clock is striking 12. Each grape represents luck for one month of the new year. (They recommend seedless grapes, to avoid the time-wasting exercise of spitting, thus jeopardizing fortune in the later months.) Any others that you know of, or practice??

We don't really have any here, except that as it is generally hot, we tend to eat outdoors and often BBQ of the heat over flame variety not the American type, and salads of the cold leafy kind and assembly of delicious raw ingredients, again NOT the American kind.

Goz, how great to hear from you! Happy New Year to you, MOTH and the family. Hi there Div, Happy New Year to you too. I have returned to this Board after a lapse during which I travelled, walked the Camino Santiago de Compostella in Spain and visited family and toured UK. Back to research and write the second book. What have you been up to? Not to complain, butt this Board is not terribly 'enlightening'! We need more of the old crowd.
