Not a bad series. Don't hear people talk about it as much as say, Poirot.

I think the last time I finished rewatching all three seasons of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries on DVD was towards the start of last year. It was really the only thing I knew Essie Davis from (though I did just finish watching Season 6 of Game of Thrones on Blu-ray around the same time and enjoyed seeing her in that. Since then I’ve seen her in The Last Post). I hadn't read the Miss Fisher books when I started watching the series on TV, I missed the first two episodes, but quickly caught up (and eventually saw the ones I'd missed on DVD). I know there are some who have issues with the Phryne character, but I think she's a rarity when it comes to female characters on TV these days. It's thanks to Essie Davis that the character comes across so likeable. I know there are some who'd disagree on the character's "likeableness", but I think Phryne manages to not cross over into 'insufferably smug' territory. She has 'sass' about her, but it's not dialed up to 100 nor is it on display 100% of the time. Phryne has her quieter/more serious moments, she makes mistakes and sometimes her actions get her into trouble, so she's not a ‘too perfect' type character. I personally find her to be fun, saucy, smart, brave, loyal, she can handle herself in a fight and has such a great wit about her. Apart from all her other admirable qualities, another thing I like about Phryne is how she encourages Dot and will compliment her when she figures something out. Phryne’s all about giving praise to other people where it is deserved, and she’s been helping Dot right from the very first episode to face her fears and be ‘strong’, but she never talks down to her nor acts superior (which is something a lot of lead characters in shows could stand to learn from Phryne – just because they’re smart, doesn’t mean they have to be jerks to everyone). I liked how in Season 3 we learned of Phryne’s ‘fear’ and Jack got one over on her for a change (although I myself have never really had a problem with her “seemingly capable of doing anything and knowing everything", as I see certain other characters that are the leads in shows who are often like this, so why shouldn’t she get to know how to do lots of things too?). Anyway, we rarely got to see Phryne afraid (other than when someone she cared about was in danger), so it was somewhat of a 'novelty' to see her phobia of something and it made her all the more 'human/relatable'. I agree with some that Aunt P can be a hard character to take at times, but at the same time I think Miriam Margolyes is great in the role. Plus, she got some really good dramatic moments as the series went on. I also loved some of her reactions to things Phryne said/did. One of my favourites is in the show’s very first episode when she questions Phryne going out at such a late hour at night. Phryne’s answer and her aunt’s reaction make me laugh every time. I just love the way all the actors deliver their lines, but especially Essie Davis. She just savours every line of dialogue Phryne utters and makes the most of it. It's a joy to listen to her speak. I do hope we get the movie soon, as I just love all the main characters in the show so much (which is a rarity for me nowadays, as there's more often than not at least one or two characters in the main cast of shows who I dislike) and I wish to see more of their adventures. I just hope any movie/s would keep the ‘tone’ of the show and not veer too far off course/change things too dramatically that it lost its charm.

Of course Essie is perfect in her role , as are many of the other actors too . Miriam Margolyes is always a great character actress and I have been following her in the BBC Documentary Series 'The Indian Dream Hotel' (2016) & 'The Real Marigold Hotel On Tour' (2016-17) about senior entertainers looking to retire comfortably overseas . The Series are a very enjoyable look to retirement

To be honest, I’ve never seen a full Phryne Fisher episode, but, from what the brief clips I have seen of the show, both her appearance and the settings always remind me of The Mrs. Bradley Mysteries, a not-very-faithful-to-source but still fun series that ran in the late ‘90s, if I’m remembering correctly.

Thanks for bringing that up Salzmank ! Yes, I wouldn't be surprised if their Series is a sly wink to Mrs Bradley's Mysteries with the great Dianna Rigg as Adela Bradley !

I've signed many petitions to keep it going, but I guess the powers that be aren't interested in what the people want. I personally think it's Australia's best television output in many years, in fact, that is what I like most about the series, the fact that we get a glimpse into their history. There are many excellent T.V. series that Great Britain has put out over the years...."Midsomer Murders", "Agatha Christie", "Taggart", to name a few, but again, to me "Miss Fisher" put Australia on the map and for some reason they are reluctant to continue it....except for some movies.....that they aren't even paying for.....go figure.

I just discovered the trailer for the movie, Miss Fisher & the Crypt of Tears, has been released.
