As heroes or villains?? Personally I want Tom Hardy in the next one as a hero or villain, I know he had a cameo in TLJ but it was cut so. Who are your picks??

I prefer character actors and unknowns in Star Wars.

That is the wrong, lazy approach.
Star Wars always used unknown character actors and new talent so to create believable characters. The IP is strong enough to coin the character, you do not need to rely on artificial star power. So, we do not require Tom Cruise, Tom Hardy, Leo Di Capria or Rhianna in our Star Wars to add their popularity to the mix. Those are not the actors you are looking for!
Thus, answer: Fresh faces and talent of all ages who will elevate their part best.

OT had seasoned vets Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing. The PT had Liam Neeson and Samuel L. Jackson. I could see "names" being brought on for these future movies.

He left the project after that.

Eh, SW should create its stars not mooch from existing ones, at least with the leads. Hardy is already in everything, what does he have to offer?
It's like with the imagination thing: they should create new iconic stuff instead of conveniently repainting and rehashing old star vehicles, worlds and storylines.

Something like in Rogue One, an international cast.
