His Obi-Wan sucked.
It’s a film no one really wants anyway, but that will make it even less likeable.
They should get Mark Hamill to do a Luke Skywalker movie. In TFA Han says ‘there were stories’ about where Luke went. Let’s see those. It can be about why he went to seek the old Jedi temple (not that he read the Jedi texts 😏).

Ewan's ObiWan was well done and some of the best acting in the prequels. And he is still young enough to play the role. As far as what the movie would be about, I don't think the choices for a storyline are as confined and restricted as you interpret them to be. They have a clean slate to work with. A movie with Mark Hamill as Luke might be difficult to pull off however, given his age now. Depending on the time frame of the story they might even have to CGI his face to make him look younger.

Well I think Ewan’s acting sucked. His dialogue didn’t help, but he sucked all the same. And you say there are infinite possibilities regarding story potential but that’s the same for all Jedi characters. I don’t know why it would have to be Obi-Wan. His character was hardly fleshed out in the prequels. I realise he was the only one of two Jedis around post order 66, but that’s the only drawcard to Obi-wan as a character.

As the prequel hating poster above obtusly demonstrates: it's broad consens amongst fans that mc Gregor was awesome as obi wan, and that it would be a historical waste not to employ him in a stand alone obi wan movie. So you are wrong.

I agree that I didn't care for the way Ewan portrayed Obi-Wan in the Prequels. That said, I am at least curious to see how he handles him in the Obi-Wan movie. Truth be told, I blame most of this on Lucas' poor directing. Let's see what a new director can do. Fingers crossed that this story will be decent. So...

McGreggor's ObiWan was great. He perfectly bridged the character over to Sir Alec Guinness portrayal of him. Many Star Wars fans would disagree with you. So your claim that "no one really wants anyway" is bullocks, poppycock, a boatload of "you know what". The way that they halfway screwed up Luke Skywalker's character in TLJ!?! Yeah, they better leave that one alone.

While I agree that we should still get Mark Hamill to do a Luke Skywalker movie (quickly before he gets much older!), I wholeheartedly disagree that no one wants an Obi Wan movie or that Ewan McGregor shouldn't be in it. On the contrary, I very much want an Obi Wan movie and I very much want Ewan McGregor in it, especially now, while he's still young enough to do all the action. It would be great, and it would help to fill in the story gap between ROTS and ANH.

Ewan McGregor is an incredible actor! If they did the Obi-Wan movie, I would love to see him it, but I'm just not sure what the movie would be about that people would want to see. It should be about some guy reflecting on his past while communing with Qui-Gon's spirit to come to a new way of thinking on a desert planet. But that would probably be pretty boring. I guess there could be some sort of story made up that someone from the Empire discovered who Luke was and he somehow foiled a plot to take him away as a child and Vader somehow was unaware. Not sure I'm up for one like that.

I guess there could be some sort of story made up that someone from the Empire discovered who Luke was and he somehow foiled a plot to take him away as a child and Vader somehow was unaware. Not sure I'm up for one like that. I could see this going in many entertaining directions. Maybe ObiWan going on a mission where he has to face a series of dangerous bounty hunters. Or perhaps he has to find some lost artifact of the Force where he faces perils. Or gathering lost Jedi that survived Order 66, only for Vader to set a trap for them and kill them. However ObiWan escapes without Vader ever knowing that he was amongst them. But my idea would be to use the ObiWan film to tie up loose ends aka some of the empty mystery boxes of TLJ. Snoke is a Darkside apprentice of Plageuis who was not trained in the way of the Sith. But he was trained in Plagueis power of using midichlorians to create life, to prevent himself or others from dying. He is trained secretly unbeknownst to Palpatine. Snoke stays hidden in the Unknown regions. Palpatine is a poor student of Plagueis unique power. Where ObiWan comes in is that Snoke has a similar power to communing. After the fall of the Republic he begins using the lightsabers of Jedis to call them to him. The Jedi believe it is master Yoda calling them. Some go and are seduced by Snoke. Snoke calls them his Knights of Ren. Others go and are not seduced so Snoke kills them. ObiWan begins to be called through Anakin's lightsaber but realizes it is a trap because he knows Yoda is on Dagobah. So ObiWan communes with Yoda through the Force to try and get to the bottom of what is going on. They both discover the identity of Snoke. So ObiWan goes on a mission to the Unknown Region to stop Snoke. Snoke sends a few of his Knights of Ren to stop ObiWan. But they fail. ObiWan finally confronts Snoke, a better physical specimen than he is in the sequel trilogy. ObiWan runs his lightsaber through Snoke's head. He believes Snoke to be dead. The lightsaber visions stop. But in the process Yoda and ObiWan learned the lightsaber trick of Snoke's. They use it many years later as Force ghosts to call Rey. In an epilogue scene: After Snoke regenerates he sends one of his Knights of Ren to secretly retrieve Luke's lightsaber from Cloud City. But Maz has a Force vision and organizes a team of bounty hunters who intercept the Knight of Ren and take the lightsaber. Then Maz stores it in the chest in the basement of her castle.

I agree with the OP. I hated Ewan's performance as Obi Wan. I also agree with other posters who indicated this had more to do with Lucas' direction than Ewan's acting ability. That swash-buckling Pirates of Penzance routine was tough to watch.

Not sure I'm up for one like that. This is exactly what I've been saying as well. I liked Guiness' Kenobi, hated McGregor's. But even if I was part of the general consensus and loved me some flamboyant Obi Wan, I'm not sure how many scenes of nearly-unending sand interrupted by a dust-up at the Mos Eisley Cantina I'd be game for. Dude was an intentional hermit. No story to be told there.
