Wooohoooo!! It is great to see SpiderGwen could finally be coming to screen.
New Trademark Suggests Marvel Has Big Plans For Spider-Gwen On Screen
Earlier this month, Marvel unveiled an intriguing new project called Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors, an animated movie that will feature a bunch of up-and-coming superheroes like Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl and Miss America. One of the more interesting was the inclusion of Ghost Spider, a renamed take on Spider-Gwen, the alternate version of Peter Parker’s girlfriend Gwen Stacy who has spider-like powers, too.
Now, it looks as if this might just be the start of some big plans for the character, as it’s come to light that Marvel has registered six new trademarks for Ghost Spider. Despite the title of her comic series being Spider-Gwen, the character is known as Spider-Woman within the MU. No doubt the name change to Ghost Spider is a way to differentiate her from Jessica Drew’s Spider-Woman.
Bleeding Cool, who first spotted the trademarks, also noted that there’s no filing for a comic book series. Presumably, that means this is connected to a push for more Gwen on the screen, rather than on the page.
So, what could these new projects for the character be? Well, it’s rumoured that Gwen could show up on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. this season. Shortly after we found out that Dove Cameron would be voicing her in Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors, it was announced that she would be joining AoS in a mysterious role.
Other than that, it’s not out of the question that Gwen might appear in the upcoming animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. As the first trailer teased, the pic will star Miles Morales but will also open the door for many other alternate Spider characters to appear. It’s possible, then, that Marvel and Sony plan to start a franchise here, with Spider-Gwen showing up in the first outing before spinning off into her own film later on.
Still, this is all just speculation and we might be way off the mark. For now, we’ll have to just keep our eyes peeled to see how exactly Spider-Gwen will swing onto our screens in the future.
