Doofus at work, who spelled as he talked, carefully made labels and all the cupboard DRAWERS were officially DRAWs.

Looked at that list and feel a serious rant coming on...... you been warned ! MiketheMechanic "These 30 Words are Always Mispronounced" Where in heck did they get some of those supposed mis-pronunciations ?
I wonder if the writer is not in an English speaking country ? That might explain it. MIGHT ! but meanwhile,
NEVER have heard anyone anywhere say Cocoa = koh-koh-wa. or The fruit is often pronounced as rasp-berry which is incorrect, the P should be silent. or Plumber: Its correct pronunciation is plume(r) with b silent.
The writer MUST be elsewhere !
ok rant over <whew>

Related to the war-shing machine no doubt. I grew up with both those words in the Hoosier state.

@homergreg I have a "localism" for you and Catman and anyone else ! Pronounce GUMS (like in your mouth type gums)
A) GOOMS (like booms) or B) GUMS (like guns)
?
Very localized and occasional appearance of "A" 'round here a-bouts

Catman That's weird.
'Tis indeed that and I have a hard time not giggling or guffawing when I do hear it. There is also a local tendency to make a statement and then say "ain' so ?" when asking for agreement to what has been said.
Odder places even than Iowa, it seems !

ok rant over <whew> Rant away, didn't realize that some of these 'explanations' didn't make any sense. Check these out: Bowl: It is pronounced as bo-hl (pronunciation of o as in roll). Not as ba-ool which is wrong. Um, duh! I don't know anyone who would pronounce it ba-ool, unless they're having a bowel movement. Truth: It is pronounced as troo-th (as in boo) and not tru-th. I want the whole tru-th and nothing but the tru-th! Quote: The correct pronunciation is kwo-te. It is often pronounced as coat which is wrong. Ya think? Don't coat me on that. According to the website the writer is also a movie buff and a good swimmer.

I haven't heard it that way either. But I grew up calling "Bell Peppers" as "Mangoes". You can imagine what I thought it would taste like when someone offered a tropical drink with mango in it!
