Oh shit, this is gonna suck, isn't it? Not to sound like a know-it-all but looking at the costumes for the sheriff and his henchmen, it reminds me of Jude Law in KING ARTHUR: LEGEND OF THE SWORD. His goons actually look like medieval S.W.A.T. carrying crossbows that look like machine guns. screenrant.com/robin-hood-2018-images-ben-mendelsohn-taron-egerton/

Fuck this looks dumb. The ONLY thing positive I read is that it'll have "John Wick styled " fight sequences in it so thats a plus I guess. But this has BOMB written all over it. What I'm much more pumped for is Outlaw King Outlaw King is an upcoming American-British historical action drama about Robert the Bruce and the Wars of Scottish Independence. It is written and directed by David Mackenzie and will be distributed by Netflix.Netflix is letting David Mackenzie have a $120 million budget to play with. Really excited to see what he can do with it. Also it stars Chris Pine in the lead role. Pumped!

Now this is what they should be sinking their money into, not stuff like Bright or Ridiculous Six.

Wow the costume design is fucking horrible It's in vogue to complain about the Pirates of the Caribbean movies these days but at least one can appreciate the time and effort they took into the costume design. And it looks like the period ffs!

Kinda miss the Errol Flynn era. Hell, I'll take that '90s revival of the swashbuckler genre at this point. The Mask of Zorro; Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves; The Three Musketeers; and The Count of Monte Cristo anyone? Those movies played it straight for the most part and did fine.

I loved those movies! I think I went to see ZORRO 7 times when it was in theatres (it was 4-6 dollars a pop, back then). PS: And I agree, they should be trying to do stuff that looks more like that Chris Pine/Scottish history movie.

Yeah, those movies knew how to balance. They had their light-hearted, funny moments. They had action, solid drama, and they allowed characters to have flaws, then develop and grow. Like, ZORRO for example, had Hopkins and Banderas in the training scenes that were funny and yet they gave you insights into each characters. Plus you had things that sometimes I wonder if you could get away with now, like in ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES when the little girl comes up and asks Morgan Freeman's Azeem if God painted him. Cause there's such a wonderful moment there where he sees it is an innocent question from a curious child, and he smiles as he tells her 'yes', and when she further inquires why, he tells her beautifully, "Because Allah loves wondrous variety." I feel like you almost couldn't do that in a movie now- someone would picketing the movie outside with posters saying all sorts of dreadful things, putting people off from seeing the movie.
And it is true about PIRATES, at least if you saw a snapshot from the movie, you would think you were watching a real period piece and you could say, "Ah yes that takes place in the era of the East India Trading Company at their height" kind of thing. And if a movie isn't trying to be terribly historical, I can forgive it not-looking perfect (ROBIN HOOD 2010 had women wearing their hair loose, something no medieval Christian woman would have done for fear or being seen as 'loose', but that's at a level of 'only a history nerd would know that, just shut up and enjoy the movie it is not a documentary'), and I can forgive it looking nothing like the historical versions if they are making something that is either supposed to be campy fun (HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS) or some kind of fantasy film (ERAGON, 7TH SON) rather than a straight period piece. But I haven't heard anything about the new ROBIN HOOD having dragons or witches, so I'm assuming they mean it to be like the Crowe & Cosner versions.

The article said that the tone suggest a resemblance to the style of a dystopian crime movie-supposedly to accentuate Robin Hood's role as a revolutionary-which would be disastrous.

I don't usually like to read off a moving based on a few pictures, but those outfits just look so incredibly out of place.

I'm sticking with the Russell Crowe version as my favorite, others will include the old Errol Flynn version, the Disney one with the fox as Robin, the 90s one with Kevin Cosner (I don't care that it is a western set in England, it has Morgan Freeman and I love both their Mrs.Little John and their Friar Tuck, as well as Duncan), but not this new one.
