1. The character search: say you wanted to look up all of the actors who played Count Dracula. You enter Dracula in the search window, bring up “Characters” in the drop menu, click the search button and your results come up.
2. The cross reference link: you would have used this to find what movies or TV shows two actors have done together.
Those two features made IMDb tolerable since they got rid of the message boards. ☹️

They seem to be jettisoning so much useful stuff and no one seems to know why. The site is a shadow of its former self.

They may as well put it right out of its misery!

I had used the character search to compile a couple of polls in October. Must have dumped them fairly recently.

They also dropped "plot".

It seems like an effort to erase the database itself but why? How does the founder of the site defend this?
Reminds me of Netflix not having many movies before 1960 either. As if they want to erase history.

Before they shut down the boards, only about 25 to 30 percent of their visits was via a search engine.
Now it's over 50% They have become a Google dependent database that is losing people staying around searching within the site.

Or maybe you could just use the Advanced Search Option.

Another thing that they removed - and one which I feel particularly near and dear to me - is the removal of quote search. This is important to me on several levels, not least of which being that I have spent many years now submitting memorable quotes to IMDb for all sorts of movie and TV pages. Now I can't even search for stuff I've submitted. Or any other quotes, for that matter.
Catman: you mentioned just using advanced search, but AFAICT, Advanced Search doesn't do anything along the lines of a quote search.

I used to go to IMDb about everyday. Since they closed the message boards I have been there maybe three times. And that was when I saw a movie and wanted to see what other movies one of the stars were in. And to do that I don't even have to log on. Bet in 6 months to a year from now you won't even recognize IMDb as it once was.

If IMDB was a human i would say it's trying to commit suicide, I think it's more along the lines of insurance fraud.

On a more positive note, their news articles don't appear to be infested with those spam replies about working from home anymore.

I'm starting to think Col Needham doesn't have much say-so in what happens with IMDb since he sold it to Amazon a long time ago and also caters to the demands of celebs in Hollywood.
Just out of curiosity, I logged into my old account to see what other features have been removed. They took away the option of the page design. I used to have it set to the old style (you could see the previous star system for movies/shows).
It isn't there anymore. Now, you either look at what's currently on the page, or you get some sorta advanced listing of everybody involved with a project. Kinda looks like plain text in a way.
Plus, the background colors are very annoying. If the boards were still around and they disabled the option of being able to select the design, I'm not sure if I would have stuck around anyhow.
I'm betting one of these days they're going to delete everybody's account and no longer have the option of logging in via IMDb. If that's the case then there goes my list of movies I voted on in the past. Good thing I made a copy.

For the third or fourth time, I will mention that I'm upset that one now has to be a Pro member to look up the filmography of a production company.
For example, as part of my research into TV history I want to look up the filmography of companies like Grampian Television, Ulster Television (UTV), Westward Television, Television South West and several others. Now I can't. Wikipedia isn't helpful, their lists are woefully incomplete. Does anyone know of any other websites where I could get the names of shows produced by these companies?
I admit this wasn't a feature many people would use, but it was useful for some, such as me.
