France Gall
Sylvie Vartan & Francoise Hardy
"France Gall's music has crossed time thanks to its sincerity and generosity. She leaves songs known to all French and the example of a life turned towards others, those she loved and those she helped."
- President Emmanuel Macron

Very sad, one of my favorite vocalists. Her finest moment IMO:

I read the news late last night. Gotta say big respect to France Gall for her delightful work over the decades.
I think Thee Morty Toad has a soft spot for her also if I recall. Sad day...and as you say, 70 is not that old these days. Respect again.

France Gall was adventurous, entertaining, at the cutting edge of music. Jane Birkin described her as "surprising, candid, mysterious ..." She worked with Serge Gainsbourg, Claude Francois, Julien Clerc, Giorgio Moroder, Michel Berger ...
"So sad to hear about the passing of France Gall. She was a great French artist and a great woman. It was a joy collaborating with her."
- Elton John
"It's a great loss. Once again, I knew little and I met her only three times in my life. Twice we did a duet on a song we wrote with her father, 'La Mamma.' The first time he brought his daughter to Brussels to sing, she did not want to sing and they thought she had a wonderful voice, and finally she agreed to do it after watching my show. She has had an extraordinary career and she is still in the hearts of the French."
- Charles Aznavour
Though she resisted film offers throughout her life, in 1996, Gall invited Jean-Luc Godard to create a music video for 'Plus Haut'. She was awarded the Legion D'Honneur in 2013.

Very sad loss. With Hallyday and Gall looks like French Pop is going through a rough time

From an ex-IMDb member: I'm seeing reports this morning that our old friend Mortytoad (Martin Bernier) has passed away. I knew that he had been under medical treatment, and he sent me a lovely reply thanking me for my well-wishes. I also know that he had recently reconnected with family members and friends and was upbeat and in a happy place. My heart is heavy this morning. Rest in peace, Martin.

My thoughts are with his friends and family - I hope he's in a better place. R.I.P

Morty was one of the nicest members of the board. We shared an appreciation for the noise rock band Scarling. I will miss him.

Morty always came across as a decent fella with good taste, and one I remember fondly from the old IMDB Boards. RIP

Truly terrible news, one of my favorite posters on IMDb MG. Actually introduced me to France Gall, as well as a lot of other great music. Also had plenty of cool stories about the pacific NW music scene. We initailly connected over a mutual love of Beat Happening, I then learnt he'd met and played with them.
RIP Morty

One of the folk on our Imdb who I thought was a genuine, well rounded bod and we communicated privately not just about music, but also about trolling and cyber bullying and sport. He got me into Warpaint, goddamit and rekindled my love of French Pop. Very sad today and will miss his presence in cyber land. R.I.P. and respect, Martin.
