she was good, yes, but didnt you find the film a bit of a disappointment? And unthrilling? For me it was mostly due to her doing a voiceover for a good half if not more of the movie. That really messed witht he tension for me, having the character constantly talk over whats going on, instead of the director showing us visually. I get its a super complex matter and some of it had to be explained in additional ways, but Sorkin is usually so good with tension in the script and here it felt unthrilling. I am gonna give it a 7 because of the way it looked and was acted but I am somewhat underwhelmed by the script. And Thats New to me with Sorkin.

I am gonna give it a 7 because of the way it looked and was acted but I am somewhat underwhelmed by the script. And Thats New to me with Sorkin. I concur. Ultimately, I found Molly's Game (which I will try to see once more) "decent/pretty good"—slightly better than average yet certainly not worthy of the hype and some of the critical praise that the film apparently received (at least based on the theatrical trailer, which certainly proved far better than the movie). And even then, I only elevated the film from "decent" to "decent/pretty good" because of a strong late scene with Kevin Costner and the reflective coda about fate and irony. (And while Costner is commendable in that scene, how and why he ends up in that precise location is rather inexplicable and illogical, speaking to your point about a problematic script.) Jessica Chastain was very good—she held my attention and adeptly handled all that narration. But she also looks really good in this film, and I wonder if a less attractive actress delivering the same performance would have proved as engaging (at least from the perspective of a heterosexual male viewer). Overall, Molly's Game held my focus, but it was not exactly dynamic, either dramatically or visually. In making his directorial debut, Aaron Sorkin seems to have been unable to shake his television background. Moreover, the interactions between Chastain and Idris Elba's lawyer lacked realism in my view. On the other hand, Costner's presence—primarily in that long late scene—partially redeemed matters. He has become an actor who really nails his parts, largely because he knows—or has learned—how to keep matters simple. Thus his emotional moments and visceral reactions feel real and true. And at least Molly's Game introduced me to the ironic fate of Jackie Robinson's brother, Matthew—I had not know about his story.
