I'm about halfway through it - it's a wild read so far, but not a whole lot of unexpected stuff. Basically a sort of "Yeah, we figured that's what it looked like behind closed doors" thing. Haven't gotten to the juicier parts yet, which are supposedly, according to Wolff, supported by tapes. As fun a read as it is, and as much head-nodding as it inspires, I'm holding out for vetting.

Haven't gotten to the juicier parts yet, which are supposedly, according to Wolff, supported by tapes. As fun a read as it is, and as much head-nodding as it inspires, I'm holding out for vetting. I have mixed feelings - part of me wants to read it for the validation of "yeah, we figured..." and the other part of me says not to read it, because it will cause input overload and there is literally nothing that I as an individual can do to change this sad state of affairs. Right now my frustration is at an all-time high, and reading it would probably just make me more agitated, so, for medicinal purposes, I'm focusing on the validation aspect. It has been documented, it's the opinion of a lot of people closer to the issue than I can ever be, so I can let others do the proselytizing. Edit: I may, too, find a book or film about Watergate, to reassure myself that a bad president can be brought down. I was alive during Watergate but focused on other things.

Never heard of it, what is it? Trump's WH is so disorganized that Michael Wolff, a reporter, sort of squatted there on a couch for quite some time and got interview after interview - it's an insider view of the whole mess. It's got some mind-boggling quotes in it, which Wolff insists are supported by tapes.

I'm actually finding it a bit comforting - there were times when the series of bungles coming out of the WH almost seemed bizarrely intentional, even clever, as they distracted from other horrible bungles. But if this book is any indication, it's been a roll of the dice every day. It is interesting seeing the ever-rotating cast of characters from the other side of the walls.

Luckily we have a President who is a "very stable genius" or he might do something insane like threaten the company that published the book.

But that is exactly it, here is Trump (fuck my life, I share a surname with him ancestrally) banging on about nuking korea, getting rid of climate accords and generally driving America to poo (and the rest of the world), if it was some grand scheme then maybe I could accept that , but if the end result is that he is literally Hitler type insane (just going with random changes and having favourites that he chops and changes and listens to as gospel when they are in favour), then I just don't want to get that depressed.

Luckily we have a President who is a "very stable genius" or he might do something insane like threaten the company that published the book. They need to send him Christmas cards because his knee-jerk (and really, really poorly thought out) attempt to stop the book's publication probably did more for its sales than all of its ad dollars combined. The running gag now is that his response (The "I'M A VERY STABLE GENIUS!" stuff) does little more than confirm the sad-clown picture the book paints of him. It's exactly what the figure depicted in the book would do.

Well that sucks, my condolences... I have a friend who has read almost everything about Nazi Germany, trying to understand how something so appalling actually became a reality. She forced herself to read "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich". One thing she mentioned was that when Hitler was angry, he would actually chew on the carpet. She has been a bundle of nerves since the election. The scariest thing for me is the threat of using nukes.

Don't be so quick to accept the accuracy of the book. The fact that a lot of stuff is uncited and for some odd reason Wolf hasn't released the tapes raises questions.

Yeah Hitler is an interesting character but I doubt the carpet chewing, that is more likely a mistranslation of German slang, or possibly his tendency to pace when he talked. I think the Trump is unravelling a bit, I would hope that (like with Hitler) that the army are getting less and less likely to jump to his commands.

As much as I dislike Pence and his politics, he is far less likely to use the red button.

Indeed... for it would be quite a leap to think that Trump is as much an ignorant, immature, thin skinned, angry insecure, narcissistic, whiny little bitch in private as he is in public... if not more so.
