I love Woody Allens films. There may not be a single one that I was bored with watching. Until today. Wonder Wheel didnt work for me from the very beginning and it never got better. Even Kate Winslet seemed kinda bad in it. Justing Timberlake did a decent Woody Allen impersonation but his pretty face was just too pretty for that to really click with me I think.
It was beautifully shot I give you that, the coloring was amazing and the shots were composed well, but the plot seemed very overdone adn the characters flat.
Anyone here liked it? Or didnt like it, for other reasons?

I thought it was a well-constructed drama, with all the different characters in impossible but perfectly plausible situations, without wild exaggerations. Good production values and direction too - I don't remember Woody Allen doing a lot of long takes before.

I haven't seen it yet, or the last few Allen films, either. I'm a fan of his more fantastical and/or absurdist bent. He had an excellent run of those into the early 2000s, but then he started wanting to get a bit more "serious" again. The closer he gets to straigtahead drama, the less interested I am.

It was alright. Visually it might only have The Shape of Water as a competitor for a prize. The Greatest Showman also had some interesting shots but it's under those two.
Everybody delivered but nothing stellar.
What partially ruined my interest and mood was how quickly and heavily the drama was introduced, right at the beginning when Belushi saw Temple and just went on with his rant. It felt like there was no progression, if it was a meter, we hit the maximum right away. That part felt too long and them arguing right left didn't help.

Wonder Wheel and Shape of Water were comparable (in the same league) visually to you??

A bit different but just as interesting but it seems you have a different opinion on the matter? yes. while I thought Wonder Wheel was very nice visually (great production value, wonderful camera), the Shape of Water was visually stunning to me. It was actually the best thing about the movie for me. but then again, that could be said of Wonder Wheel as well. But it felt on a different level of quality, visually. I would go as far as saying Shape of Water was visually more interesting than Blade Runner 2049, but will be betting my money on Deakins getting the Oscar this yea..

While we may disagree for the SoW vs WW, I do agree that Blade Runner 2049 is less interesting on that aspect and many others but that's another debate.
