I like Alien 3, but don't love it in the way I do the first two films. Anyone here watched the Assembly Cut. If so, would you recommend it?

Well if you at least like the film, I'd say check it out. Some find it superior to the theatrical cut.

I say give it a go (as a fan of the movie). One of the most common criticisms (other than killing off two characters from the previous film) is that it is 'just a bunch of bald indistinguishable British guys running around swearing.' The Assembly Cut uses the longer running time to flesh out the characters a bit, particularly Golic.
That said, if you really like the final music cue, the Assembly Cut has a really ugly edit (you'll see why). Some of the puppet effects are not polished, but if you can look past them, I think it's a vastly superior cut.

The assembly cut is much better, fleshed out many of the characters which actually gave their death some meaning that is completely lost in the theatrical. It also has a visually beautiful scene involving oxen. It’s my 2nd favorite alien film behind Alien
