Cars with no steering wheels and no pedals. What could possibly go wrong? In other news, GM to declare bankruptcy in 2020.

I don't get this desire to produce driverless cars. Technology can and will always screw up eventually, the percentage of accidents caused by these cars cannot be zero. When you've got cars traveling at high speed, lives are at stake.

I think with " Christine " she was " better behaved " one to one with the driver only it always seemed to be " threes a crowd " with that classic " mischievous " yet elegant looking auto as well .

The part that concerns me the most, is this...
If these are driverless cars, that means there won't be anyone from the company that owns them... driving them... So I guess there is no reason for anyone from the company to be in the car at all...
That means there must be a way to track the cars... and I guess... Program the cars remotely, while they are in service...
In other words, you need to tell the car where to go, by some kind of transmitted signal...
So if the company can program the car on the move...
What is to stop terrorists from hacking the cars?
KITT, could suddenly become KARR...
100's of these automated TAXI's driving all over a major city, taking aim at crowds of pedestrians, or crashing in buildings...
All of them, with no way for the passengers to take control and stop them.
I don't either...
It just a bunch of lawsuits waiting to happen...
Maybe if these things rode on something likeRailroad Tracks...
Driverless Subway Trains? Maybe...
Would anyone want to ride in a Pilotless Airplane?
What if the Automatic Pilot gives out at 30,000 FT, over the middle of the Ocean?...

GM's, Apple's, and Tesla's lawyers and lobbyists are probably already busy buying off members of Congress. Don't be surprised if Congress passes a law shielding the makers of self-driving cars from litigation.

I was thinking in terms of no one wanting to buy such a car because they don't trust the technology. I certainly wouldn't want to entrust my life to such a vehicle.

I was thinking in terms of no one wanting to buy such a car because they don't trust the technology. I certainly wouldn't want to entrust my life to such a vehicle. What happens when these automated taxis show up to pick up passengers, and the paying customers refuse to ride in them? Imagine all the customer complaint calls demanding a traditional taxi with a driver... While some individuals might be fine with buying and riding in these... To be honest, At this time, I have trouble believing that our society is ready to accept these, to make even one worth purchasing... and I don't see why these would be a good seller, or why companies would want them... Maybe five or ten years from now, but not now. Wouldn't it be interesting, if in fact, no one buys these vehicles... Like someone else posted... I won't be surprised if I see this future headline: "GM Files for bankruptcy in 2020"...

100% non starter. Canada isn't getting them any time soon... let's see A.I. perform in a blizzard or on icy roads or in freezing rain or wind with on coming traffic hiding in fog or rain. These things have a long long way to go before they should be allowed beyond SoCal. If you wanna drive for a living, move to Canada or Scandinavia.

Well, self-driving cars could be useful for someone like me, as I cannot drive due to disability.

Well, self-driving cars could be useful for someone like me, as I cannot drive due to disability. I'm not opposed to self-driving cars per se. What scares me is a self-driving car that has no controls a rider can access to take over in the event of an emergency. Technology is great-- when it works. Unfortunately, it often doesn't work, or works incorrectly. And in the case of automobiles, we can be pretty sure that when it doesn't work, people are going to die--and some of them might be innocent bystanders in other vehicles or just out and about on foot.
