My favorite is "Lenin" by Robert Service. Not a character I particularly admire but the book was a page turner, as they say. My least favorite by far is "The Lives of John Lennon" by Albert Goldman. In point of style and form it is a disaster but apart from that it is full of lies.

I own a copy of "The Lives of John Lennon" (picked up in paperback at a used book store), but have never read it except for consulting its index on a couple of points. I'll have to look more closely at it now. My favorite on the subject is The Beatles: The Biography by Bob Spitz.

Colette by Judith Thurman was great.
It helps when the subject matter lived an insane life.

Good:Den Unge Amalie Skram (The young Amealie Skram) by Liz Køltzov ( A brilliant biography about the Norwegian author Amalie Skram)
Bad:Nicholas II: The last of the tsars by Marco Ferro ( I have read many biographies about Nicholas II. And this is the worst. It's a dreadfully bad biography.)

Bret Hart 'My Real Life in the Cartoon World of Wrestling' was very good.
James Stewart 'Pieces of Time' not so special... early 90's, basically reads now like present day Wikipedia entries.

Liked Tesla: Inventor of the Electric Age, by W. Bernard Carlson
Fun, quick, informative read about Nikola Tesla.
Disliked Hero: The Life and Legend of Lawrence of Arabia, by Michael Korda
I recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in the life of T.E. Lawrence as it is very informative, but Korda has a huge man crush on T.E. Lawrence, and lets his admiration for Lawrence spill out onto the pages one too many times. Gushing over Lawrence's looks and intelligence over and over...it gets a little overbearing.
