Semi Final. Great matchups
Wozniaki Mertens Kerber Halep
Wozniaki is on form, deserves to finally get a Major. Mertens - who is she? She is young and we will hear more from her. Can she take the heat? Kerber - another form player, going to be hard to beat Halep - her ankle has been giving her trouble, she is at the main event now and any niggle will become more important.
Wozniaki vs Kerber would be a must-watch match.

Two unseeded players in the men's semifinals: Kyle Edmund from Britain and Chung Hyeon from South Korea. They will face Marin Cilic and a certain Roger Federer, respectively.
Federer on track for his sixth Australian Open and his twentieth Grand Slam win.

Sucks that Hairlip outlasted Kerber. Woz-Kerber would have been a good-looking final.

Shame Karl Edmund went out so easily.
I think Roger-Chung could be a classic.

Shame Karl Edmund went out so easily. I think Roger-Chung could be a classic. I am torn about the second semifinal. On one hand I would like to see Federer keep winning at age 36, add to his collection of Grand Slam titles and cement his position as greatest tennis player of all time; on the other hand what a great story it would be for an unknown player from a country that has never produced any notable tennis player before to reach the final of a Grand Slam tournament (and maybe even possibly win it).

Sucks that Hairlip outlasted Kerber. Woz-Kerber would have been a good-looking final. Great match though. Several match points by Helep and Kerber, and they both looked to be out on their feet at the end. But Halep managed better to get through the exhaustion to still play her shots. A classic game where mental toughness and physical fitness are put on the table alongside skill. World #1 and #2 will battle it out, the winner to be #1 after the match, and for either one it will be their first Major win. I'm going for Wozniaki because she is hotter, and with her bum ankle Halep may not be able to recover sufficiently in two days after than gruelling semi win.

Federer advances to the final against Cilic, whom he has beaten eight times out of nine. His South Korean opponent in the semifinal retired with blisters on his foot after losing the first two sets

Well done Wozniaki. Finally won one A terrific match. Couldn't tell who was on top till the final ball. Wozniaki was very gracious towards Halep, knowing they were both in there with little between them.

I didn't realize it was as recent as 1987 the Aussie Open was played on grass.

I didn't realize it was as recent as 1987 the Aussie Open was played on grass. They have had a couple of attempts to find a surface. Players voted for Rebound Ace at first, which they tried for several seasons. The current surface is different to the US Open surface. It got some criticism, including from Nadal who is king on clay and hates the hard bouncy stuff. It is said that the Australian surface (Plexicushion) bounces and give more spin than the US Opens Decoturf which is faster with less bounce. I suppose it depends if you like the players thrashing it out from the back of the court firing missiles around, or if you prefer to see the slower players have a chance, who use slices and bounces and get closer to the net.

I've always liked that the Aussie hardcourt is unique from the US Open's.

just listened to Feds victory speech where he was so thankful and crying.
unbelievable how this guys personality changed how he got older - and how he's so likeable now.
once compared this guy to a robot - he once made Andy Roddick cry during a victory speech at a Slam because he was so smug and arrogant
can't help but continue to root for this guy going forward until he eventually retires....

He got through the whole speech unemotionally, thanked Cilic's team. then realized he hadn't thanked his own team, and then he lost it.
