Even the greatest actor, Marlon Brando, made some bad movies, but there are some great actors who cared about the quality of the movie, instead of just the money.

So did James Dean but still not a bad record. I know. I just got the impression from the OP that he chose this. I think given time any actor is going to star in a crappy movie even if they are doing it for the art. I figured he either died or retired

He does have an impressive track record.

Daniel Day-Lewis. He has one or two stinkers (like Nine), but he has an impressive filmography.

John Cazale died in 1978. The five titles given in the O.P. are the only movies he was in. Never had a chance for a stinker.
Many movie fans consider the tragedy of Cazale's early death as equal to that of James Dean's. Two enormously talented actors with such great potential with lives cut short and what might-have-been will never be.

That was my first thought. Granted, I've only seen 17 of his movies, but of those, they range from "pretty good" to "excellent." I'd take his catalog over anyone else's. The only movie of his that I saw that I could accept an argument saying it was crappy was The Quick and the Dead. But I love that movie.

There were a lot of stars who made bad movies in the 70s -- he didn't... I'm sure with "The Godfather" he had enough cache to take a LOT of money, but probably a crappy movie.... My point is that his SELECTION was great as well.
Just look at the movies Al Pacino and Robert De Niro (old co-workers) have done in the last 30 years -- awful movie after awful movie.. It's not like they need the money.. Why not take a small cut and make a low-budget indie movie popular?
Ben Gazzarra not only didn't pick awful movies, especially with his skills, looks, ability to play foreign characters with his Italian origin but instead went to make movies with John Cassavetes, and then after he passed away, helped other new directors like his performance in Vincent Gallo's "Buffalo '66" and then "Dogville"

Leo has probably the best track record, but I'd say Jim Caviezel (sp?) is up there too.
"Flintstones" withstanding, I'd say John Goodman is a contender too. I like that as he's aged, he's taken on smaller and more subtle roles. Something like "Red State" maybe...whether or not you like the movie, his last scene with the investigators is expertly done.

Who are some great actresses who didn't make crappy movies?

Have you people saying Leo not seen J. Edgar? I also wouldn't hold his first movies against him, but Poison Ivy and Critters 3 are garbage. Total Eclipse looks pretty bad, too. And I personally hated Shutter Island, but that's just me.
I don't really have a counter answer, though.

John Cazale might be the only actor whose filmography contains only classic masterpieces

John Cazale might be the only actor whose filmography contains only classic masterpieces I think you are right. He is. Leo is the closest, but even he has had some stinkers. I feel as far as quantity goes, Leo wins it.
