Which film you deem the perfect example? The Empire Strikes Back immediately comes to mind. Just listening to the soundtrack makes me all warm and fuzzy. Other contenders includes The Wizard of Oz, the original King Kong.

Been my favorite movie since 1997 but Empire is creeping awfully close behind.

I wish SO much that they would reboot it already with a younger actor. There's still untold Indiana Jones stories that need to be told.

The mid-period James Bond films with megalomaniac villains scheming on world domination from their secret lairs.

Popeye Doyle, I’ll agree with @nxnwrocks: Raiders of the Lost Ark is the first movie that came to my mind as well. Also, let’s see… Trouble in Paradise (1932) The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) The Wizard of Oz (1939) Casablanca (1942) Singin’ in the Rain (1952) The Quiet Man (1952) North by Northwest (1959) 7 Faces of Dr. Lao (1964) Mary Poppins (1964) Goldfinger (1964) Superman (1978) The Princess Bride (1987) The Rocketeer (1991) Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004) These are movies that have a sense of wonder, of magic, of awe at the larger world—coupled with heart and a genuine, if ideal, sense of place. They make up not “film” or “cinema,” such abstractions, but simply “the movies”—movie magic as the term goes. They make us smile and laugh, and they have that grand sense of escapism so missing in contemporary pictures. You believe that a man can fly, and that all men can ascend to the greatest heights.

I guess there are several ways of interpreting this question. When I think of "escapism", I think of traditional storytelling- nothing artsy or experimental or subtextual (if that's a word). Dawn of the Dead comes to mind as one of my favorites. As for the magic of movies, I think of pure enjoyment... something that just makes me happy watching it... I'll go with the Before trilogy. Honorable mention to Star Wars.
