Happy 88th Birthday Tippi Hedren!!! Born in January 19, 1930 in New Ulm, Minnesota Thanks for everything, so far...and you animal rights activism, especially the wild lions. Three generations: Tippi with daughter Melanie Griffith and granddaughter Dakota Johnson. A successful fashion model from her twenties, appearing on the front covers of Life and Glamour magazines among others, Hedren became an actress after she was discovered by director Alfred Hitchcock while appearing on a television commercial in 1961. She received world recognition for her work in two of his films, the suspense-thriller The Birds in 1963, for which she won a Golden Globe, and the psychological drama Marnie in 1964. Hedren has appeared in over eighty films and TV shows including Charlie Chaplin's final film, A Countess from Hong Kong 1967, the Alexander Payne political satire Citizen Ruth 1996, and the David O. Russell existential comedy I Heart Huckabees 2004. Her strong commitment to animal rescue began in 1969 while she was shooting two films in Africa and was introduced to the plight of African lions. In an attempt to raise awareness for wildlife, she spent nearly eleven years bringing Roar 1981 to the screen. She started her own non-profit organization, the Roar Foundation, in 1983 to support The Shambala Preserve, an 80-acre (32 ha) wildlife habitat which enables her to continue her work in the care and preservation of lions and tigers. The Birds 1963, not her first movie, she had made an uncredited role in Petty Girl 1950 as Ice Box Petty Girl. Saw that documentary about the making of ROAR. It's insane that they even made it.

Happy birthday Tippi! She's popped up in a few indie movies I've seen, and then there was the time she and Melanie both appeared on Raising Hope as mother and daughter. I finally saw her in Marnie a few years back, she had a meaty part that time. I need to rewatch The Birds, it's been forever. I recently saw the TV movie The Girl, where Tippi is played by Sienna Miller.

Marnie 1964 has been discussed and is still discussed.
One of the persons involved in the movie in extra material (I wish I remeber who) said: "If you don't like Marnie you don't like Hitchcock, and (after a pause) if you don't like Marnie you don't like movies". That is a pretty harsh statement.
