Had Billy Zane ever been approached to play Batman? For what the Burton-Schumacher films were, I could see him fitting that portrayal. Perhaps save Clooney some grief. I know it's really off topic but it got me wondering why he didn't do better after Titanic. At the least he'd be an excellent Lex Luthor at the time.

Not to my knowledge, which is shame because he could've knocked it out of the park as he would've also done as Lex Luthor.

I think he would have been good for the Schumacher movies. Keaton was perfect in the Burton films. He also could have played Lex very well. I just wish they had made more Phantom movies.

And to Zane's credit, he didn't need a rubber muscle suit to play the Phantom... He really got into peak athletic shape for that film.
Do you know who was the runner-up for the part? Bruce Campbell.

Campbell was also considered for Batman in Forever. If anyone could have made the Schumacher movies watchable...

Personally I would like to see a proper movie of 'The Phantom.' The recent miniseries with the new costume and younger character was awful and nothing like the comic books. I have heaps of comic books of The Phantom and not only is he the biggest selling superhero of all time in Australia and the 5th worldwide The Phantom was the very first superhero and one of the main inspirations for the creators of Batman and Superman. If it wasn't for the success of 'The Phantom' DC and Marvel wouldn't exist now. It is about time the Phantom gets his dues on screen and gets a good movie.

Well speaking of Australians, Sam Worthington was attached to a Phantom reboot for a while. Guess it's not happening.
