Turning 85 in March. What makes me keep coming back to it? Is it the bad acting (or style of the time?), the creaky but still enjoyable visual effects? Or maybe itβs the great sense of adventure it still wields. Maybe a mix of everything. Who doesnβt feel sad when Kong is in his final moments as Max Steinerβs marvellous score embellishes his end? Like Star Wars or 2001: A Space Odyssey, chalk it up as one of those films Iβd would love to seen when originally debuted.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the first part, before they get to the island, drags so badly.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the first part, before they get to the island, drags so badly. Some of the dialogue is rich - βSay, I think I love you.β

YES ^^^^^^ with the proviso that it's the acting style of the time more than "bad acting". Gotta remember too that was pretty early in the sound era which made for some dialogue limitations . I did not see it in its first run BUT I did first see it on a BIG Screen at a revival house. AWESOME in part because of it's "creaky-ness". TRIVIA LINK

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the first part, before they get to the island, drags so badly. Sure you're not thinking of the 2005 version? As for the dialogue and acting, I like how said 2005 version poked fun at it a bit. Jack's views on women, and Ann herself, don't quite hold up too well. It's still the best paced Kong movie, though.

Primitive though they are, the special effects still mesmerize me.

I love this film. All of it. *First movie I bought with my employee discount on VHS when I worked in the movie department of a big record store chain in 96-97. I now own it on DVD.*

Excellent, legendary, probably would only land in my top 200-300. I've never owned a copy of it. My fav stuff is the dinosaurs, & Kong ripping the T-Rex's head apart ftw. That was soo f'n boss.
Part of why I dismissed PJ's is he had a giant ape. Kong walks on 2 legs for me, a monster. Skull Island got it again.

Holy Mackerel what a show! They wrote in their own review. Don't be alarmed! Those chains are made of chrome steel!
I do chuckle a bit when Kong bounces off the side of the Empire State Building.

i found it to be relatively low paced esp. in teh beginning and I didnt like the romance. Jack and Ann's relationship is doomed to fail. "But Jack! You hate women!"
